Sassuolo vs Roma prediction

Both teams are fighting for a place in European qualifications and both teams are suffering from a rather serious dip in form. Needless to say that a win is a must for both teams if they plan to keep pace with their rivals in the upper part of the table. The only thing certain is that an exciting clash is in front of us on Tuesday night.

Sassuolo are yet to defeat Roma on home turf

Eusebio Di Francesco’s men are most certainly the biggest hit in the Serie A this term, nobody expected in the start of the season that i Neroverdi will fight for a place in Europe, but they are struggling to find their best form in 2016, with a single win from their last seven matches (D3 L3). Sassuolo are awaiting for a home win since the beginning of November, boasting a 0-3-1 record in the process. The encounter against Roma comes in a bad time for them, especially if we bear in mind the fact that the Black-and-Greens have lost both of their previous encounters against i Giallorossi at Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore. Sassuolo are keeping things tight in the back on home turf, but recently their tight defense started leaking, having conceded in four consecutive fixtures. If we add the fact that the offensive line is failing to deliver of late with just three goals in four games, it becomes obvious what is the cause of their pale performances. If Sergio Floccari (4) and Domenico Berardi (4) don’t start producing soon, Sassuolo could continue their fall.

Eusebio Di Francesco will be without the likes of Karim Laribi, Simone Missiroli and Emanuele Terranova, who are all out because of injuries.

Decimated Roma in search for a win

Roma simply must start winning on their travels if they plan to pursue the place in the Champions League next season. I Lupi are on a six-game winless run when playing away from home and this negative trend needs to stop. Luciano Spalletti recorded his first triumph against Frosinone since his return (3-1), and the victory has to be a strong boost of morale. El Shaarawy made a triumphant debut for i Giallorossi, scoring a goal in his first match, and he is expected to lead the attack once again, especially if Edin Dzeko is not fit to play. Much will rely on Miralem Pjanic (8), the best player of the team this term, but I believe he is capable of leading his side to a win. Stadio Olympico outfit never lost against Sassuolo, unlike other Italian top-flight teams, and are capable of continuing their positive run against i Neroverdi, regardless the fact they are decimated for this clash.

Roma have a long list of injured players. Lucas Digne (knee), Kevin Strotman (knee), Iago Falque (physical) and Vasilis Torosidis (muscle) are all in the recovery room, Edin Dzeko, Francesco Totti and Alessandro Florenzi are waiting for the final verdict of the medical staff, while Konstantinos Manolas is suspended.

Quick Facts

  • Eusebio Di Francesco’s men have never won a game against Roma (D3 L2)
  • Sassuolo are yet to net a goal on home turf against i Lupi
  • Only two of i Neroverdi’s last eigh home games ended with more than 2.5 goals
  • Roma are on a six-game winless run on their travels
  • I Giallorossi score just over a goal per match when playing away from home

Sassuolo vs Roma betting tip

Roma cannot afford another mistake if they plan to stay in the battle for the Champions League. A win is simply a must for Luciano Spalletti’s charges. On the other hand, the hosts managed to surprise and disappoint most of the top-half teams at Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore. A tough, low scoring clash is expected, but I will give a small advantage to i Luppi.
