Atletico Madrid vs Granada prediction

Having eliminated Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals, Atletico Madrid will be looking to spoil Barca’s party in the race for the La Liga title as well. Los Rojiblancos are just three points behind the league leaders and they certainly want to melt Barcelona’s advantage even more.

Can anyone stop Antoine Griezmann?

Atletico Madrid are brimming with confidence ahead of Sunday’s game against Granada. Los Rojiblancos have been impressive in all competitions of late and they will be looking to build on the Champions League triumph over Barcelona when they take on los Granadinos at their Estadio Vicente Calderon. Diego Simeone’s men left their hearts on the field on Wednesday evening, meaning that tired legs could prove to be a big problem for the title-chasing side. The Argentine tactician could use the Granada game to rest some of his first-team regulars, but regardless of which players will be deployed in the starting line-up, there is every chance the hosts will go all guns blazing at the relegation strugglers. Antoine Griezmann just can’t stop scoring and he will be looking to add more goals to his account after scoring a brace in the 2-0 victory over Barcelona. A win over los Granados will see Atletico get level on points with Barca as the Catalan giants face Valencia later on Sunday evening.

Filipe Luis, who impressed in the Champions League clash, misses the match through suspension, while Tiago Mendes remains in the recovery room. Jose Gimenez is likely to miss the match with injury as well, but fellow defender Stefan Savic is fit.

Four consecutive draws

Following a 2-0 loss to Real Betis in the Andalusian derby, Granada shared the spoils with the likes of Espanyol, Rayo Vallecano, Athletic Bilbao and Malaga in previous four league matches. However, despite being on a four-game unbeaten run in La Liga, the team’s top flight status is still in danger as they are just two points clear of the relegation zone ahead of Matchday 33. Jose Gonzalez’s troops have a big fish to fry in Sunday’s game against Atletico Madrid and, no doubt, the underdogs will rely on their defence in the Estadio Vicente Calderon clash. Granada are after their first ever win over los Rojiblancos, but given Atletico’s splendid form, I do not believe that the Andalusians are capable of making history at “Calderon”. In Isaac Success’s absence, El-Arabi will be the man to watch in the away team. It has to be noted that Jose Gonzalez’s men are eyeing their fourth away win of the season.

Isaac Success is banned, while Fran Rico returns to the starting line-up after missing the Malaga game through suspension. El Arabi should recover in time to face Atletico, while Mainz is rated doubtful.

Quick Facts

  • Granada are after their first ever win over Atletico Madrid
  • Los Rojiblancos managed to keep a clean sheet in previous four meetings with Granada
  • Atletico are on a 12-game unbeaten run at home
  • Antoine Griezmann scored five goals in last four games in all competitions
  • Granada recorded only one win in last eight away matches in the league

Atletico Madrid vs Granada betting tip

Atletico Madrid can’t afford any complacency in Sunday’s game against relegation-threatened Granada. Los Rojiblancos are a real force to be reckoned with at home and seeing that they are three points behind Barcelona in the La Liga standings, this has to go down as a must-win game for the hosts. Taking everything into account, Antoine Griezmann and Co. should give fans yet another reason for celebration.
