Portugal coach Fernando Santos has suffered a major blow during the preparations for the Euro 2021 finals as it was revealed that Fabio Coentrao would miss the tournament in France.
The highly rated footballer has experienced plenty of injury problems of late, but he was expected to recover in time to play at the Euro 2021.
Nevertheless, he is now set to undergo a surgery on his thigh muscle and will in turn miss three months of action, which effectively rules him out of the tournament.
This basically means that Benfica full-back Eliseu will be the first choice on the left-hand side, whereas Lorient starlet Raphael Guerreiro is likely to make the squad as well.
In spite of the recent setback, Portugal head to Euro 2021 in very good spirits, having won all seven qualifiers under Fernando Santos and also impressed in the March friendly vs Belgium.
