Sevilla vs Deportivo La Coruna prediction

Having eliminated Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League quarter-finals, Sevilla will be aiming to start a new winning run in La Liga when they host Deportivo La Coruna at their Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday afternoon.

Must-win game

Sevilla did well to make it to the Europa League semis, with the team beating fellow La Liga side Athletic Bilbao in the two-legged tie, but los Sevillanos have been struggling to find their form in the national championship of late. Following a shocking 2-1 loss to Real Sociedad in front of home fans, Unai Emery’s men suffered a 2-1 loss to Valencia at Estadio de Mestalla at the weekend and, as a result, the Andalusian outfit dropped to seventh place in the La Liga standings. Sevilla need to record a win over Deportivo on Sunday if they are to keep their hopes of booking their place in the European competitions alive and I am positive that the hosts will adopt an attack-minded approach against Victor Sanchez’s troops. The good news for the hosts is that key midfielder Ever Banega returns to contention after missing the Europa League game through suspension and he will certainly pose a big threat for the opposition defenders.

Key attacker Kevin Gameiro suffered an injury against Athletic Bilbao, meaning that Fernando Llorente is going to lead the line for the hosts against Deportivo La Coruna. Defender Andreolli remains in the recovery room.

Heavy loss to Las Palmas

Deportivo La Coruna were producing fine performances in the first half of the season, but they have been struggling to find their best form in 2016. The Galician team head into Sunday’s game against Sevilla following a 3-1 loss to Las Palmas at their “Riazor”, but despite suffering the defeat against los Amarillos Victor Sanchez’s men remained in the safe zone. Deportivo are nine points clear of the relegation zone and a victory over Sevilla would definitely help them secure the elite division survival. However, beating los Sevillanos at “Pizjuan” is easier said than done and, no doubt, the visitors will be more than happy with one point from the match. Top scorer Lucas Perez scored a consolation goal in the 3-1 loss to Las Palmas and the team’s top scorer should keep his place up front, alongside Luis Alberto.

Important defender Alejandro Arribas is banned, while Luisinho returns from suspension. The likes of Jonathan Rodriguez and Juan Dominguez have been left out of the squad.

Quick Facts

  • Sevilla recorded 13 wins in last 14 home games in La Liga
  • Deportivo are on a ten-game winless run on the road in all competitions
  • Los Sevillanos are on a three-game losing run in the league
  • Injured Sevilla striker Kevin Gameiro has netted 15 goals this season (La Liga)
  • Sevilla are undefeated in last nine meetings with Deportivo

Sevilla vs Deportivo La Coruna betting tip

Sevilla have been impressive at their Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this season and despite the fact that they were beaten by Real Sociedad in their last home game, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts, who are determined to take part in the Europa League next season. Deportivo struggle on the travels and they are unlikely to claim a major scalp on Matchday 33.

Tip: Sevilla to win
