Milan vs Lazio prediction

Milan need to get back to winning ways in order to keep pace with their local rivals in the race for a place in Europe next term. Lazio, on the other hand, need a quick healing potion after their shocking defeat against Sparta in the Europa League.

Milan strikers took two weeks off

Sinisa Mihajlovic cannot be happy with the performance of his forwards in the last fortnight since none of them managed to find the net against Chievo (0-0) and Sassuolo (2-0). Milan’s misfiring attackers need to find their goal scoring form fast if i Rossoneri plan to stay in the battle for a European spot in the overall standings, as they trail six points behind Inter in the fifth place. Carlos Bacca is on a five-game fruitless run and, with the injury of Niang, both Balotelli and Menez did not prove they deserve a place in the starting line-up, if we disregard their performance against weak Alessandria from Serie C. Mihajlovic’s main weapon is his rock-solid defense, which conceded only three times in their last seven home matches and will pose the biggest problem for Lazio’s attacking line this time out. San Siro outfit hope for the repetition of success from the reverse fixture, but, bearing in mind the current form of their forwards, a share of spoils could be considered as a positive result.

Rodrigo Ely is still recovering from his broken toe, so he will not be available for the forthcoming match. Juraj Kucka is expected to be back in April, while Mbaye Niang is out till May. Gianluigi Donnarumma is out due to fever, but could make the team in time for the clash against Lazio, while Alex and Montolivo await the final verdict of the medical staff.

Lazio used to draws on their travels

I Biancocelesti are on a ten-game undefeated run on the road in all competitions. Having shared the spoils in eight of those ten encounters, Stefano Pioli’s charges became used to draws of late, so if they manage to snatch a point in their forthcoming clash against Milan, it should not come as a big surprise. Lazio suffered a shocking defeat against Sparta Prague on home turf. Marchetti was forced to pull three balls out of his net and, having no response on the other end from Klose and later Matri, Stadio Olimpico outfit unexpectedly got knocked out from the Europa League such early in the competition. The fans hope Pioli will manage to pick up the pieces and prepare his men for the match against Milan in order to continue their unbeaten streak. As i Rossoneri, the capital club also struggle in front of opposition goals, but also rely on their defensive performances. Bisevac and Hoedt form a rather solid rampart in front of Marchetti and with Biglia as an excellent attack stopper in midfield, Bacca will have big problems to create a goal scoring opportunity in the upcoming clash.

Dusan Basta suffered a calf injury which drove him out of the pitch till April and he will join Stefan de Vrij in the recovery room. Milinkovic-Savic and Radu have calf injury issues, Kishna is out due to thigh injury, while Konko has adductor problems. Filip Djordjevic could make the team if he recuperates from his back injury on time.

Quick Facts

  • I Biancocelesti emerged triumphant from their last visit to San Siro
  • Six of their last ten mutual meetings ended in a draw
  • Lazio recorded seven straight shares of spoil on their travels
  • Milan lost once in their last fourteen fixtures in all competitions
  • I Rossoneri are a fortnight without a goal

Milan vs Lazio betting tip

Both teams have been displaying under par performances of late and neither Lazio nor Milan could afford to lose the upcoming match. This is why I expect a hard tactical encounter with not so many goals in the process. A share of spoils seems as the most optimable outcome, since Mihajlovic and Pioli will rely on their defense and look for their chances in the counter attacks.
