PSV vs Ajax prediction

The two Dutch giants PSV and Ajax face each other at Philips Stadion in the Eredivisie derby. Top position in the standings is at stake and, no doubt, there will be fireworks when the two fierce rivals take on each other in Eindhoven.

PSV unbeaten at home

Despite producing a fine display in Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, PSV eventually suffered elimination in the elite competition (on penalties). As a result, the team will be full focused on the national championship in the remainder of the season and a win over their bitter rivals Ajax would see Phillip Cocu’s men move one step closer to defending the domestic trophy. The Rood-witten are undefeated at home ground in the 2015/2016 Eredivisie campaign, but they failed to impress in their last home fixture in the league, with the team sharing the spoils with Heerenveen. Luuk de Jong is the team’s top scorer and the 25-year-old attacker, who has netted 19 goals this season, is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts against Ajax. PSV outplayed the Amderdammers in the first half of the season and they definitely want history to repeat itself.

Left back Simon Poulsen misses the match with injury, but he is the only absentee in the home team. Luciano Naringh is likely to start the match, meaning that Nicolas Isimit-Mirin should start the game from the bench.

Ajax hungry for revenge

Ajax suffered a 2-1 loss to PSV at their Amsterdam Arena in the first half of the season and, no doubt, the Amsterdammers are hungry to get their revenge on the Rood-witten. Frank de Boer’s men dropped two points in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Roda and they are eager to return to winning ways in the national championship. However, Sunday’s clash against their fiercest rivals PSV will be anything but a walk in the park for the last season’s runners up. Ajax outclassed Willem II in their last away game in the Eredivisie and you should have in mind that they scored 2+ goals in each of their last three away games. Frank de Boer’s team are just one point behind league leaders PSV and they will not have better chance this to regain top position in the standings. Arek Milik is the team’s top scorer and he could prove a handful for the opposition back line.

Kenny Tete and Jairo Riedewald are both sidelined with injury. Lasse Schone and Anwar El Ghazi are both pushing for a start. There are no suspended players in the away team.

Quick Facts

  • PSV have yet to suffer a loss at home ground in the 2015/2016 Eredivisie campaign
  • Phillip Cocu’s troops scored 2+ goals in five of their last six home games
  • Ajax are undefeated in last four away games in the league
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in last three meetings between the two teams
  • Ajax scored 1+ goals in each of their last four meetings with PSV

PSV vs Ajax betting tip

PSV and Ajax seem to be evenly matched at the moment. With only one point separating the two teams in the Eredivisie standings, there is every chance we will see a close encounter at Philips Stadion. Seeing that both teams will go for a win in Sunday’s derby, I believe that there is a big value in betting on both teams to score. In previous three meetings between the two teams both sides found the net.

Tip: Both teams to score
