Marseille vs Toulouse prediction

Having defeated Granville in the Coupe de France in midweek, Marseille will be aiming to start a new winning run in Ligue 1 when they take on Toulouse at their Stade Velodrome on Sunday afternoon.

Now or never

Despite the fact that Marseille chiefs have pumped up a lot of money into the squad over the last few transfer windows, OM have been struggling in the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 campaign. Michel’s men sit in 13th place in the standings ahead of Matchday 29, but it has to be noted that they have one game in hand. Marseille are seven points behind the Champions League places, but they need to start winning as soon as possible if they are to keep their hopes of making it to the elite competition alive. OM face a must-win situation in Sunday’s match against Toulouse and the hosts will give their best to record their first home win since 13 September, 2015. Batshuayi scored the winning goal for OM in the Coupe de France triumph over Granville and the Belgian attacker will be the man to watch in the home team in Sunday’s clash against les Pitchouns.

Lucas Ocampos and Brice Dja Djedje are both sidelined with injury, while Nicolas N’Koulou misses the game through suspension. Abou Diaby is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day. Steven Fletcher is likely to start from the bench.

Hard times at Stadium Municipal

Toulouse are having a season to forget, but they could still secure the Ligue 1 survival. Les Pitchouns sit in 19th place in the standings ahead of the trip to Marseille and they are six points behind the “safe zone”. Sunday’s clash against OM is of big importance for the visitors and it remains to be seen if they are capable of putting an end to their ten-game winless run in all competitions. Toulouse suffered a 2-1 loss to Rennes in their last league game and they definitely face a difficult task in Sunday’s encounter against Olympique. Les Pitchouns have been struggling on the travels of late and you should bear in mind that they are on a five-match losing run on the road at the moment. Toulouse failed to score in previous four away matches and it is no surprise they are regarded as big underdogs in the Stade Velodrome showdown.

Mihai Roman misses the match with injury, but he is the only absentee in the away team. Coach Pascal Dupraz is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that faced Rennes at the weekend.

Quick Facts

  • Marseille scored exactly one goal in four of their last five home matches
  • OM recorded their last win at Stade Velodrome on 13 September, 2015
  • Michel’s men failed to beat Toulouse in previous two meetings between the two teams
  • Toulouse are on a five-game losing run on the road
  • Les Pitchouns recorded their last win at Stade Velodrome in 2012

Marseille vs Toulouse betting tip

Both Marseille and Toulouse are desperate to return to winning ways. OM aim to move a little closer to the European places, while les Pitchouns are eager to escape the relegation zone. Seeing that both sides are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach in Sunday’s match at Stade Velodrome, I believe that both teams to score bet should be considered. When the two teams met in Coupe de la Ligue earlier this season Toulouse recorded a 2-1 win over Marseille.

Tip: Both teams to score
