Granada vs Sporting Gijon prediction

Granada and Sporting Gijon face each other in the relegation six-pointer on day 27 of the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. Los Granadinos aim to build on a morale-boosting win over Deportivo, but no doubt the visitors will leave their hearts on the field in order to grab something from the match.

Important triumph

Thanks to a 1-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna Granada put an end to their four-match losing run in La Liga. The Andalusian outfit, though, failed to move away from the relegation, but, no doubt, the win over los Brancoazuis should help them regain a much-needed confidence. Jose Gonzalez’s troops are three points behind the safe zone and no doubt the hosts will fight tooth and nail in Thursday’s relegation six-pointer against Sporting. Youssef El-Arabi scored the winner for Granada against Deportivo and the 29-year-old striker is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders. El Grana were beaten by the likes of Real Madrid and Valencia in previous two home games in the national championship, but they are certainly capable of making life difficult for the fellow relegation strugglers. It has to be noted that Jose Gonzalez’s men are eyeing their fourth home win of the season.

Javi Marquez misses the match with injury, but he is the only absentee in the home team. Ruben Perez returns to contention after missing the Deportivo game through suspension. Edgar Mendez is pushing for a start.

Five-game winless run

Sporting Gijon have been totally unpredictable in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign so far. Los Rojiblancos recorded back-to-back wins over the likes of Real Sociedad and Valencia in January, but they have yet to record a win in February. The newcomers are on a five-match winless run in Primera Division and they head into Thursday’s clash against Granada following a 4-2 loss to Espanyol in front of home fans. The visitors are low on confidence ahead of the trip to Andalusia and I do not believe that they are capable of stopping the run of five matches without a win. Carlos Castro scored a brace in the 4-2 loss to Espanyol and he will be the man to watch in the away side. Sporting Gijon are tough to beat at home, but given their poor away record, the visitors are unlikely to spoil Granada’s party at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes. You should have in mind that los Rojiblancos are eyeing their fourth away win of the season.

Nacho Cases misses the match through suspension, while the likes of N’Di and Espinosa are both out of contention with injury. Coach Abelardo is likely to stick to the 4-4-2 formation.

Quick Facts

  • Granada suffered four defeats in previous five league matches
  • Los Granadinos scored five goals in last three home fixtures in La Liga
  • Jose Gonzalez’s troops have defeated Sevilla, Getafe and Athletic Bilbao at home so far
  • Sporting Gijon are on a five-match winless run in La Liga
  • Los Rojiblancos have kept only one clean sheet on the road this season

Granada vs Sporting Gijon betting tip

Sporting Gijon do not seem to be at the top of their game at the moment. The newcomers were outclassed by Espanyol in their last home fixture in La Liga and given that they often struggle on the travels, there is every chance the visitors will return home empty-handed. Los Granadinos proved their worth in the 1-0 win over Deportivo and, taking everything into account, home win should be considered.

Tip: Granada to win
