Pescara forward Gianluca Lapadula is widely expected to represent the Peruvian national team at the 2016 Copa America Centenario, according to reports.
The Italian-born striker has a Peruvian mother and he was recently sounded out by La Blaquirroja coach Ricardo Gareca about his interest of playing for the Peru national team.
And even though the 26-year-old told Gareca that he would only make his decision after the current season came to an end, there have been some positive developments of late.
The fact that Lapadula has followed the official Twitter account of Seleccion Peruana is enough to suggest he is seriously thinking about pledging his future to La Blanquirroja.
Many believe that the lure of playing at the 2016 Copa America Centenario will persuade the talented forward to accept the call from Ricardo Gareca and begin his international career.
Gianluca Lapadula leads the Serie B goalscoring charts with 20 goals in 32 league outings and he has been linked with several top Italian clubs of late, including Juventus.
And with Peru strikers Claudio Pizarro and Paolo Guerrero not getting any younger, Lapadula could soon get a chance to nail down a regular starting berth in the national team.
