Netherlands fans have launched a Twitter campaign hoping to persuade Real Madrid youngster Marco Asensio to represent Oranje at international level.
Having seen the national team fail to secure their place at the Euro 2021, the Oranje supporters believe coach Danny Blind needs some fresh blood ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
As a result, they have launched a campaign on Twitter with #AsensioWillemseninOranje hashtag, hoping to see the talented midfielder switch his allegiance from Spain.
Marco Asensio’s mother is Dutch, but the problem is that he has represented various Spain’s youth teams and is currently a member of the country’s Under-21 side.
Having yet to earn a senior cap for La Furia Roja, there would be no obstacles to the central midfielder representing Netherlands at international level, but it remains to be seen whether the Dutch FA has yet to contact the talented footballer.
Shortly after joining Real Madrid from Mallorca, the 19-year-old was loaned to Espanyol, where he has already started five La Liga fixtures this term.
