Borussia Dortmund vs Mainz prediction

Borussia Dortmund will be looking to build on the Europa League triumph over Tottenham Hotspur when they host Mainz at their Signal-Iduna-Park on Sunday afternoon. The Millionaires are breathing down Bayern’s neck and they are eager to stay in the race for the Bundesliga trophy.

Splendid form

Borussia Dortmund were struggling under Jurgen Klopp in the 2014/2015 Bundesliga campaign and the team needed a change. Thomas Tuchel was appointed as a new Borussia coach and he has been doing a great job with the team ever since he arrived to Signal-Iduna-Park. The Millionaires are still in the race for the Bundesliga trophy and, on the other hand, they are on the verge of booking their place in the Europa League quarter-finals. Thomas Tuchel’s men outclassed Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg (3-0) and, no doubt, they are capable of defending their slim lead in the White Hart Lane clash. Borussia Dortmund played out a goalless draw with Bayern Munich at the weekend and they will be looking to return to winning ways in the national championship when they take on Mainz at their Signal-Iduna-Park on Sunday. Marco Reus scored a brace against Tottenham and he will be the man to watch in the home team.

Sven Bender misses the match with injury, but he is the only absentee in the home team. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts against Mainz.

Impressive win over Bayern in their last away game

Mainz shared the spoils with Darmstadt in their last league match, but it has to be noted that full back Donati was sent off 30 minutes before the final whistle. Anyhow, die Mainzer extended their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to three matches and they are certainly brimming with confidence ahead of the trip to Dortmund. Martin Schmidt’s men have been producing very good performances of late and it has to be noted that they totally deserved to beat Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena in their last away game in the national championship. John Cordoba has netted three goals in the 2015/2016 Bundesliga campaign to date and he is widely expected to lead the attack for the visitors against Borussia. You should have in mind that Mainz are eyeing their sixth away win of the season, with the team beating M’gladbach, Darmstadt, Hamburger, Hannover and Bayern away from home.

Bungert, Bengtsson, Muto, Klement, Soto and Berggreen are all out of contention with injury, while aforementioned defender Donati misses the match through suspension. Martin Schmidt is likely to stick to the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Quick Facts

  • Borussia Dortmund recorded seven wins in last eight home fixtures
  • Millionaires managed to keep a clean sheet in six of their previous seven league games
  • Thomas Tuchel’s men are after their third consecutive win over Mainz
  • Mainz are after their first ever win at Signal-Iduna-Park
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in four of Mainz’s last five league fixtures

Borussia Dortmund vs Mainz betting tip

Borussia Dortmund need to take Sunday’s game very seriously if they are to keep their hopes of winning the Bundesliga title alive. Mainz head into the match with a severely-weakened squad and despite the fact that they shocked Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena earlier this month, I believe that there is a big value in betting on Marco Reus and Co. as they have been in a thrilling form of late.
