Leicester City vs Newcastle United prediction

Leicester chase their first Premier League title in their 132-year-long history, and a triumph against Newcastle United would present a giant step towards their dream. The Magpies are in a must win situation if they plan to keep their survival hopes alive.

Leicester pretty close to the title

Riyad Mahrez scored yet another wonder goal to secure all three points for Leicester against Watford in the previous round of the Premier League (1-0). In this way the Foxes created a five-point gap between them and Tottenham, since the Spurs shared the spoils with Arsenal. Claudio Ranieri’s charges now represent the biggest candidates for lifting the trophy in May, but Mahrez stated his teammates do not feel the pressure. The fearless Foxes now await the below par Magpies and if they repeat the performance from the reverse fixture, three points are in the bag. Even though Jamie Vardy netted only four goals since Christmas, three of them occurred at King Power Stadium, which is why he will present the biggest danger for Newcastle’s drafty defense, alongside the Algeria international. Leicester won their last three encounters with the Geordies and, if they play their cards right, the fans will most certainly witness the fourth consecutive triumph this Monday evening.

Claudio Ranieri will have the entire team at disposal for the upcoming clash against Newcastle. Matty James is the only injured player in Leicester, and he will miss the entire season.

Can Benitez save the season?

A disappointing defeat against Bournemouth on home soil left everybody at St James’ Park furious and it finally meant it was departure time for Steve McClaren. Truth being told, the decision of his dismissal should have been made much earlier, but the name of Rafa Benitez gives the fans a spark of hope that a miracle can happen in this last ten rounds. The famous Spanish manager believes his new team will do well until the end of the season, but still left a clause in his contract he is free to go if the Magpies go down to the Championship. It seems mostly unlikely that the Geordies could look for points at King Power Stadium, especially bearing in mind the fact Newcastle suffered six straight defeats on their travels. Their toothless attack is the worst in the entire Premier League when it comes to away efficiency, with mere seven goals scored since the beginning of the season. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Papiss Cisse are rarely delivering this term, while the team’s top goal scorer, Georginio Wijnaldum netted all of his nine goals on home soil. This is why I do not expect a spectacle from Newcastle’s forwards this time out.

Newcastle United have a lot of injury problems as well. Toney, Coloccini, Mbemba, Mbabu, Cisse, Haidara, Obertan and Krul are all sidelined, since they are in the recovery room.

Quick Facts

  • Leicester won three previous encounters against Newcastle
  • The Magpies won their last game in Leicestershire in 1999 (D4 L2)
  • The Foxes are on a ten-game undefeated run on home soil in the Premier League
  • The Geordies lost their last six fixtures on the road
  • St James’ Park outfit netted mere two goals in the spell

Leicester City vs Newcastle United betting tip

Rafa Benitez is one of the best managers in the business, but not even him is capable of restoring Newcastle’s morale in such a short period of time. Leicester have the chance for a huge step towards the trophy with this victory, and I firmly believe the Foxes will take all three points in the forthcoming clash.
