Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad prediction

Atletico Madrid will be looking to build on a hard-fought win over Real Madrid in the local derby when they take on Real Sociedad at Estadio Vicente Calderon on Tuesday evening. Los Rojiblancos need to pick up all three points from the match if they are to keep their title hopes alive, but La Real have been in a thrilling form of late.

Griezmann is the man!

Atletico Madrid did not produce a splendid performance in the Madrid derby, but thanks to Antoine Griezmann’s goal in the second half of the match los Rojiblancos picked up all three points from the clash. Diego Simeone’s troops are still in the race for the La Liga title, but given that they are eight points behind league leaders Barcelona ahead of Matchday 27, Tuesday’s match against Real Sociedad has to go down as a must-win game for the capital club. Atletico Madrid have been impressive at their Estadio Vicente Calderon this season and they are widely expected to record their ninth home triumph of the season. Aforementioned attacker Antoine Griezmann is brimming with confidence ahead of the visit of Real Sociedad and he is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. The French attacker has netted 13 goals in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign to date.

Diego Godin and Felipe Luis are both one yellow card away from suspension, while Tiago Mendes and Tiago Savic have yet to recover from their respective injuries.

Agirretxe is back

Real Sociedad were on the verge of suffering a loss to Malaga at the weekend, but top scorer Imanol Aigrretxe came as a substitute and scored the equalizing goal for the Basque outfit. La Real extended their unbeaten run to five matches and they will be looking to cement their spot in the top half of the standings with a win over Atletico Madrid at Estadio Vicente Calderon. However, beating los Rojiblancos in the Spanish capital is easier said than done and, no doubt, the visitors will be more than happy with one point from the game. Real Sociedad are likely to adopt a defence-minded approach in Tuesday’s La Liga game. The good news for the visitors is that in-form attacker Jonathas returns to contention and it remains to be seen who will be deployed up front as a lone striker. Anyhow, Real Sociedad are eyeing their third consecutive win on the road.

Centre back Martinez misses the match through suspension, while aforementioned attacker Jonathas returns to the squad after serving his ban against Malaga. Sergio Canales remains in the recovery room, while Asier Illaramendi should be recalled to the starting line-up.

Quick Facts

  • Atletico Madrid are eyeing their fifth consecutive clean sheet
  • Los Rojiblancos have suffered only one loss at home ground this season
  • Diego Simeone’s men have conceded no more than 11 matches in 26 league games
  • Real Sociedad managed to keep three clean sheets in last four league matches
  • La Real are on a five-match unbeaten run in all competitions

Atletico Madrid vs Real Sociedad betting tip

Atletico Madrid are superior to Atletico Madrid at the moment, but given La Real’s fine form, I am not tempted to put my money on the hosts this time out. Both sides have been impressive at the back of late and, taking everything into account, under 2.5 goals bet should be considered. Atletico Madrid recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in the reverse fixture.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 1.65 (7/11) @bet365
