Bochum vs Bayern Munich prediction

Following a goalless draw with Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on Bochum in the German Cup quarter-finals. The mighty Bavarians are regarded as hot favourites to make it to the semis, but they will have to prove their worth on the field.

Bochum have a mountain to climb

By beating Salmrohr, Kaiserslautern and 1860 Munchen Bochum set up a meeting with Bayern Munich in the German Cup quarter-finals. The rewirpowerSTADION outfit face an uphill task in Wednesday’s clash against the Bundesliga giants, but they will definitely leave their hearts on the field in order to claim a major scalp in the DFB Pokal last eight. Bochum have netted eight goals in the process so far and it has to be noted that they have yet to concede in the 2015/2016 German Cup campaign. On the other hand, Gertjan Verbeek’s men are on a quest to return to Bundesliga and they sit in 5th place in 2. Bundesliga standings. Simon Terodde is the team’s top scorer and he is likely to prove a handful for the opposition backline.

Gertjan Verbeek is unlikely to make too many changes to the team that faced Freiburg. Attacker Peniel Kokou Mlapa is likely to be recalled to the starting line-up.

Bavarians eyeing their 18th German Cup title

Bayern Munich have not been impressive in 2016 so far. The German champions did well to beat the likes of Hamburg and Hoffenheim, but they dropped two points in Saturday’s derby against Bayer Leverkusen. Pep Guardiola will not be in charge of the team next season as he will take over the reins at Man City, but the Catalan tactician will certainly give his best to help the Allianz Arena outfit win as many titles as possible in the 2015/2016 Bundesliga campaign. The Bavarians have defeated the likes of Nottinghen, Wolfsburg and Darmstadt on their way to the German Cup quarter-finals and they are widely expected to extend their winning run on Wednesday evening. Robert Lewandowski is enjoying a season to remember and the team’s top scorer is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition defenders. Bayern Munich were beaten by Borussia Dortmund in the DFB Pokal semi-finals and they are eager to make amends for the unsuccessful campaign. FCB are eyeing their 18th German Cup trophy.

Franck Ribery returned to training, but he is unlikely to be risked. Xabi Alonso is available for selection despite being sent off in the clash against Bayer. Mario Gotze and Javi Martinez remain in the recovery room.

Quick Facts

  • Bochum are on a five-match unbeaten run in 2. Bundesliga
  • Gertjan Verbeek’s men managed to keep a clean sheet in previous two home games
  • Bayern Munich are on an 11-game winning run on the road in German Cup
  • Pep Guardiola’s team scored six goals in previous two away games in the process
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in four of Bayern’s last five Bundesliga matches

Bochum vs Bayern Munich betting tip

Bayern Munich are superior to Bochum at the moment and the mighty Bavarians are likely to make it to the German Cup quarter-finals. Pep Guardiola’s team failed to win the DFB Pokal trophy last term and I am positive that they will take Wednesday’s game very seriously. Pep Guardiola can count on his key attackers and, taking everything into account, away win should be considered this time out. Bayern Munich recorded a 2-1 win over Bochum in the DFB Pokal five years ago.
