Everton vs Chelsea prediction

Following an unlucky defeat to West Ham United, Everton will be looking to return to winning ways when they take on Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals. The Blues suffered elimination in the Champions League last 16 at the weekend, meaning that they will give their best to save the season by clinching the FA Cup trophy.

Three consecutive clean sheets

Everton were on the verge of recording a routine win over West Ham United, but Romelu Lukaku missed a penalty to triple the team’s lead. The Hammers eventually scored three late goals and spoiled Everton’s party at Goodison Park. The Toffees aim to bounce back from the 3-2 defeat and it remains to be seen if they are capable of extending their winning run in the FA Cup. Roberto Martinez’s men have defeated the likes of Dag & Red, Carlisle United and Bournemouth on their way to the quarter-finals, but Chelsea are likely to pose a much bigger threat for the Toffees than their previous rivals. Romelu Lukaku did fail to score from the penalty spot in the defeat to West Ham United, but he is likely to prove a handful for his old club. Everton are eyeing their fourth consecutive clean sheet in the FA Cup, but preventing Chelsea attackers from scoring is easier said than done.

Tyias Browning misses the match with a knee injury, while Kevin Mirallas is sidelined through suspension. Defender Bryan Oviedo is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day.

Blues eager to win the FA Cup

Chelsea were not capable of matching PSG in the Champions League last 16 and given that they are unlikely to win the Premier League trophy, the Blues will be fully focused on the FA Cup in the remainder of the season. The capital club have been in a fine form ever since Guus Hiddink took over the reins and t has to be noted that they have suffered no more than two defeats under the new manager. Chelsea set up a meeting with Everton in the FA Cup quarter-finals by beating the likes of Scunthorpe United, Milton Keynes Dons and Manchester City. The Blues have netted 12 goals in the process so far, but they face a difficult task in Saturday’s game against Everton. The bad news for the fans is that Diego Costa suffered an injury in the 2-1 loss to PSG, meaning that Loic Remy will lead the line for the visitors if the Brazilian-born striker fails to recover in time to face Everton.

Eden Hazard and Diego Costa are both doubtful for the FA Cup game. John Terry and Kurt Zouma remain in the recovery room, while Nemanja Matic should be recalled to the starting XI.

Quick Facts

  • 20 goals in total were scored in previous four meetings between the two teams
  • Everton suffered three defeats in previous four home games
  • Toffees have yet to concede in the 2015/2016 FA Cup
  • Chelsea are after their eighth FA Cup trophy
  • Blues scored exactly two goals in each of their last two away games

Everton vs Chelsea betting tip

When Everton and Chelsea take on each other a high-scoring affair is guaranteed. The two teams played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge earlier this season and seeing that Chelsea defenders John Terry and Kurt Zouma remain in the recovery room, I would not be surprised if we see a real football festival at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.

Tip: Both teams to score
