Celta vs Sevilla prediction
Third game in a row between the two rivals is set to take place on Thursday as Celta and Sevilla head into their Copa del Rey semi-final return leg at Balaidos. Hosts are faces with a tough challenge as they need to catch up Sevilla’s four-goal advantage if they want to progress to the final.
Celta slowing down
Celta Vigo have been hugely impressive at the beginning of the current campaign, but it seems as if the team is starting to lose steam. One win in their last six matches across all competitions is less than what the fans have bargained for and the return leg versus Sevilla will be the opportunity for Eduardo Berizzo’s men to record a valuable win that would be a huge morale boost. Celta have dropped to seventh in the La Liga standings and are trailing their Tursday rivals by two points. O Celticos were handed a great chance to leapfrog their rivals during the weekend with their La Liga match at Balaidos, but the hosts were unable to make it count as they were forced to chase the result until the hour mark when Beauvue levelled the score for the final 1-1. Claudio Beauvue was brought this January from Lyon in Celta’s attempts to bolster their ranks and make an additional push in the league. The 27-year-old France midfielder has already made an impression in his three appearances since arrival and could prove to be a valuable signing for Berizzo’s team who are facing a real challenge of catching up four goals from Celta in order to reach the Copa del Rey finals.
Home team will once again be without their key man Nolito, who remains sidelined with injury. Andreu Fontas is also unavailable for Celta.
High-flying Sevilla
Unai Emery has managed to recuperate his team following somewhat slower start to the season and Sevilla are now once again in excellent run of form. With only one loss in their last 15 matches in all competitions, the Rojiblancos are flying high recording impressive results. Sitting fifth in the standings with eight points behind Villarreal, Sevilla are still eager to make the best out of their campaign and they refuse to go down without a fight. Even if they fail to grab the Champions League spot, reigning Europa League champions are still within the race to reclaim the title in that competition and possibly claim their spot in the elite club competition after all. Copa del Rey offers them a chance to fight for their first trophy this season, although Barcelona as all but confirmed finalists will be a handful for any side in the final match. Emery’s team fought very well at home to earn the 4-0 result in the first leg against Celta Vigo and pressure is off for the players who come to Balaidos willing to play and confirm their trophy credentials. Sevilla managed to improve their form on the road and Emery’s side must be considered favourites for the upcoming event.
Nicolas Pareja and Marco Andreolli remain injured and will miss the game in Vigo. Grzegorz Krychowiak is closing to full fitness, but will be spared during the week following his knee injury.
Quick Facts
- Sevilla have lost only 1 of their last 15 games in all competitions
- Rojiblancos won their last 3 away Copa del Rey matches
- Celta managed to beat Sevilla only once in their last 5 meetings
- Berizzo’s troops managed only 1 win in their last five matches
- There have been at least two goals scored in 4 of last 5 games between two sides
Celta vs Sevilla betting tip
O Celticos are suffering from a major dip in form lately and it has to be taken into consideration that their key man Nolito will once again be unavailable. However, Sevilla are unlikely to go full throttle as they have a highly anticipated match against Barcelona ahead of them and they might choose to save some strength as they have a four-goal advantage heading into the game.
