Albania national team midfielder Taulant Xhaka has suffered a thigh muscle injury in the build up to the Euro 2021 finals, it has been revealed.
The 25-year-old started all eight qualifiers as the Eagles secured their first ever appearance at a major tournament, and he is expected to play a key role at the Euro 2021 finals.
However, Xhaka has now suffered a leg injury that will sideline him for “several weeks”, according to his employers FC Basel.
The highly rated footballer suffered a thigh injury in weekend’s victory over Sion that saw his side clinch seventh league title in a row.
With the Euro 2021 finals six weeks away, Xhaka should have enough time to fully recover and help Albania attempt to achieve a respectable result in France.
The interesting thing is that Taulant Xhaka is likely to be up against his brother Granit Xhaka when Albania face Switzerland in their opening fixture on 11th June.
The FC Basel midfielder also represented the Rossocrociati at youth level, but eventually switched his allegiance to the Eagles.
