AC Milan vs Napoli prediction

With their two-match winning run having come to an end at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, AC Milan will attempt to start a new promising streak when they play host to in-form Napoli. The Azzurri have now won four of last five matches and head into the high-profile clash in much better spirits than the opposition.

Inconsistent AC Milan

Even if the start of the new season has been far from impressive, many still believe that Sinisa Mihajlovic will help AC Milan return to old glory days, especially given the quality of players at his disposal. The former Sampdoria coach by no means had an easy job after arriving at San Siro, and it is clear that the squad rebuilding process is still ongoing following major changes in the summer. But, while team’s away form leaves a lot to be desired, at least the Rossoneri are doing much better on home soil. After seeing off minnows Perugia in Coppa Italia, AC Milan recorded 2-1 and 3-2 league wins over Empoli and Palermo at San Siro, and everything suggests we will see another entertaining game at the iconic stadium. With the likes of Bacca, Balotelli and Adriano up front, the Rossoneri clearly have got plenty of attacking potential, although the inexperienced back line is leaking goals for fun at the moment. And having conceded at least once in each of their last five matches, we cannot really trust AC Milan to end the barren defensive run against red-hot Napoli on Sunday evening. Following the disappointing loss to Genoa, the hosts have no choice but to go for a win against the Azzurri.

Starting defender Alessio Romagnoli is banned, whilst Jeremy Menez, Ignazio Abate and Philippe Mexes are out injured and Mario Balotelli faces a fitness test.

Back on track

Former Empoli coach Maurizio Sarri was in a similar position to his AC Milan counterpart when he took over the reigns at Napoli earlier this summer, and he, too, experienced some problems in the opening exchanges. But, things quickly fell into place for the Azzurri, who have been nothing short of impressive in recent weeks. Back to back 5-0 wins over Club Brugge and Lazio did wonders for the players’ confidence, and even if they were unable to make their domination count against minnows Carpi, Napoli players had every right to feel optimistic ahead of the remainder of the season. And there were more good news for the club fans as the Azzurri went on to beat champions Juventus at their Stadio San Paolo before also recording a Europa League win over Legia Warsaw. This means that Maurizio Sarri’s charges head into the AC Milan clash full of confidence, albeit being all too aware that they are still far away from the top 3 positions. And with their opponents struggling for form, Napoli will see this game as a perfect opportunity to get one over their rivals for Champions League positions, so chances are they will not be discarding their attack-minded approach.

Key attacker Lorenzo Insigne has recovered from a knee problem, but first choice keeper Pepe Reina is doubtful through injury.

AC Milan vs Napoli betting tip

AC Milan continue to show improvement in the attacking department, but they cannot seem to patch up the leaky defence that will be under a great deal of pressure when facing free-scoring Napoli. And with both sides eager to escape the mid table obscurity, we could see goals galore at Stadio San Siro.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals
