Puerto Rico vs United States Team News

Puerto Rico coach Jack Stefanowski named a 21-man squad to square off against United States of America in Sunday’s friendly. The likes of Cristian Arrieta (22/5), Andres Cabrero (26/4) and captain Hector Ramos (25/11) have been left out of the squad. Samuel Soto missed the World Cup qualifier against Grenada, but he made the Puerto Rico squad this time out.

USA kick off their preparations for the 2016 Copa America Centenario and coach Jurgen Klinsmann has called 22 players for the camp in Miami. Julian Green has been recalled to the squad and he is likely to play his first match for the USA national team since April, 2015. Experienced attacker Jozy Altidore misses the match with injury (hamstring), with Bobby Wood likely to step up. The likes of Paul Arriola, Amando Moreno, Fabrice Picault, Caleb Stanko and Zack Steffen made their debut in the USMNT camp. Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley and Kyle Beckerman will be rested against Puerto Rico.

Injured: Jozy Altidore (93/34)

Quick Facts

  • It has been 37 years since the two teams last met on the international stage
  • USA failed to score in last two games on the road
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in USA’s last three matches
  • Green, who returns to the squad, made his USA debut on September 3, 2014 against Czech Rep.
  • Under 2.5 goals were netted in four of Puerto Rico’s last five games

Puerto Rico vs United States Prediction

United States head into the game with a severely-weakened squad and considering that the Yanks have been struggling away from home of late, I do not believe that away win should be considered. Puerto Rico will be without several first-team regulars as well and, taking everything into account, there is every chance we will see a low-scoring affair in Bayamon.

Betting Tip: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 2.25 (7/5) @Winner
