Sheffield Wednesday vs Arsenal prediction

Having eliminated Newcastle United at the previous stage, Sheffield Wednesday will attempt to claim another major Premier League scalp, this time at their Hillsborough. But, that is easier said than done despite the fact that Arsene Wenger is certain to rest some of his starters, with the Gunners winning last four in all competitions.

Eight games without a loss

Sheffield Wednesday were pretty disappointing last term, finishing the campaign 18 points behind play-off positions, but they managed to show a considerable improvement this term. This is all due to the fact that the club management worked really hard to reinforce the squad in the summer and they succeeded in doing so, attracting a number of players of Premier League quality and that has made all the difference. The summer recruits obviously needed a while to settle, which is why nobody was too surprised by the slow start, but the team have since seriously raised their game. The run of four wins and three draws saw Sheffield Wed climb to ninth in the Championship standings and they now sit just four points behind top 6 places. Meanwhile, the Owls impressed to defeat Newcastle United on the road in the Capital One Cup Last 32 stage and they now head into the Arsenal clash in excellent spirits. Even so, it won’t be easy for Carlos Carvalhal’s charges to pip the under-strength Gunners to a place in the quarter-final, but they can be trusted to register at least one goal.

There will be no major changes to the side that defeated Rotheram United at the weekend, with Michael Turner still sidelined through injury.

The winning streak continues

Just like their next opponents, Arsenal needed a while to start playing to their potential, but once they finally returned to the right track, the Gunners never looked back. Arsene Wenger’s side have been thoroughly impressive of late, not only winning games against Leicester City, Watford and Everton, but also defeating the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich without conceding a single goal in those two matches. It is clear that the team are now playing with a great deal of confidence and even if some key men will be left out of the starting line-up in midweek, their back-ups should profit from the excellent atmosphere in the squad. Arsenal did win last three matches on the road, scoring no fewer than ten goals in the process, and while we can trust the visitors to extend the great scoring run, achieving a win at Hillsborough may prove a much tougher task. The Gunners could experience problems in the build-up play if both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are left out, but we should still see a highly entertaining encounter on Tuesday evening.

In the absence of David Ospina, Petr Cech will continue in goal, but Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey are definitely out.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Arsenal betting tip

Considering that they have been on top of their game of late, Sheffield Wednesday look quite capable of making this match very interesting and we do expect them to use the sold-out Hillsborough to their advantage. Arsenal, too, are in excellent form at the moment and everything suggests we will see another high-scoring encounter.

Tip: Both teams to score
