Valencia vs Celta Vigo prediction

Valencia will be looking to recover from a loss in the Europa League when they take on Celta Vigo at their Estadio de Mestalla on day 30 of the 2015/2016 Primera Division campaign. Os Celeste are eyeing a place in the European competitions, but beating los Che at “Mestalla” is easier said than done.

Yet another disappointment

Despite recording a 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League last 16, return leg, Valencia eventually suffered elimination in the European completion on away goal rule. Los Che have been struggling in La Liga of late as well and they will be looking to make amends for back-to-back defeats to the likes of Atletico Madrid and Levante when they take on Celta Vigo on Sunday. Gary Neville is under big pressure ahead of the visit of Os Celeste and seeing that they are seven points clear of the relegation zone, Sunday’s match against the Galician outfit is of big importance for the hosts. Valencia recorded only one win in previous nine home fixtures, but they produced a fine performance in the Europa League clash against Bilbao and that is giving the fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of Celta Vigo.

Zakaria Bakkali, Denis Cheryshev and Joao Cancelo are all sidelined with injury, while Enzo Perez is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day.

Five defeats in last six away games

Celta Vigo were totally outclassed by Real Madrid in their last away game in La Liga, but the team returned to winning ways at the weekend as they defeated Real Sociedad in front of home fans. Eduardo Berizzo’s men are on the right track to finish yet another season in the top half of the table, but the team’s main goal is to book a place in the European competitions. Celta Vigo are certainly capable of meeting the goal and it has to be noted that they face an easy fixture list in days to come. Os Celeste will take on Deportivo, Sporting Gijon, Real Betis and Espanyol after Sunday’s game against Valencia, but they have enough quality to grab something from the Estadio de Mestalla clash as well. Nolito is undisputedly the team’s key player and all eyes will be on the former Barcelona man when the two teams take on each other at “Mestalla” on Sunday.

The likes of Andreu Fontas, Pablo Hernandez and Iago Aspas are all out of contention through injury, while Nemanja Radoja is banned. Coach Eduardo Berizzo has no other selection worries.

Quick Facts

  • Over 2.5 goals were netted in six of Valencia’s previous seven home fixtures
  • Celta Vigo conceded 2+ goals in five of their last six away games in La Liga
  • Celta recorded their last win at Estadio de Mestalla back in 2002
  • Valencia scored at least one goal in each of their last 14 meetings with Celta Vigo
  • 10 goals were netted in previous three meetings between the two teams

Valencia vs Celta Vigo betting tip

Valencia are desperate to start a new winning run in La Liga and to escape the danger zone. Los Che are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach in Sunday’s game against Celta Vigo and given that Os Celeste have been in a fine form ever since Nolito recovered from his injury, there is every chance we will see goals galore at Estadio de Mestalla.

Tip: Both teams to score

Odds: 1.70 (7/10) @bet365
