Argentina international midfielder Lucas Biglia is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury playing for Lazio.
The 29-year-old scored the opening goal for the Biancocelesti in weekend’s 2-1 win over Bologna, but he had to come off at the start of the second period.
Biglia is set to undergo additional tests on his muscle problem, but initial reports suggest that he will be out for around four weeks.
This means that the experienced midfielder is certain to miss Argentina’s friendly matches vs Bolivia and Mexico on US soil, but he should recover in time to help La Albiceleste in their opening 2018 World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.
The national team coach Tata Martino had previously stayed without Manchester City full-back Pablo Zabaleta, and he could now call a new player to replace Lucas Biglia.
Star players Leo Messi, Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria have all been included in Argentina squad for Bolivia and Mexico games.
