France vs Russia prediction

France will be looking to build on a 3-2 win over Netherlands when they take on Russia in Tuesday’s friendly game. The Sbornaya head into the game following a routine 3-0 win over Lithuania and they are now on a quest to upset the Euro 2021 hosts.

Hard-fought win over Netherlands

As expected, France defeated Robben-less Netherlands on Friday night, but it has to be noted that Blaise Matuidi scored the winner in the dying minutes of the match. Les Tricolores have big ambitions for the showpiece tournament in their homeland and they want to prepare in the best possible way for the 2016 European Championship finals. Didier Deschamps will use upcoming games against Russia, Cameroon and Scotland to test as many players as possible. The French tactician fielded the best possible side against Netherlands, but the former Olympique Marseille boss is likely to mix the squad against Russia. Manchester United ace Anthony Martial should be recalled to the starting line-up and it remains to be seen if he is capable of scoring his first ever goal for the French national team. Anyhow, les Tricolores are regarded as favourites to win Tuesday’s clash, but they will have to prove their worth on the field.

Karim Benzema, Paul-Georges Ntep and Mathieu Valbuena remain on the sidelines, while aforementioned attacker Anthony Martial should be recalled to the starting line-up. Moussa Sissoko is pushing for a start as well and there is every chance Yohane Cabaye and Bakary Sagna will play some part in Tuesday’s friendly as well.

Big fish to fry

Russia did well to bounce back from a 3-1 loss to Croatia, with the team beating Lithuania 3-0 in Saturday’s friendly. However, the Russians face a much more difficult task in Tuesday’s game against France and they will have to be at their sharpest in the Stade de France clash if they are to upset the Euro 2021 hosts. Leonid Slutsky’s men are on a four-game winning run on the road, but you should have in mind that they defeated the likes of Moldova, Liechtenstein, Montenegro and Hungary in last four away matches. The Sbornaya are regarded as big underdogs in Tuesday’s friendly against France, meaning that the visitors will be more than happy with the share of spoils this time out. Artem Dzyuba was rested against the Lithuanians, but he should lead the attack for the Russians against les Tricolores.

Aleksandr Kerzhakov could play some part against France after being left out on the bench against Lithuania, while Brazilian-born footballer Guilherme earned his first Russia cap at the weekend and he is pushing for a start. Igor Akinfeev and Aleksandr Kokorin should be recalled to the starting XI.

Quick Facts

  • France are eyeing their fourth consecutive win at home
  • Les Tricolores scored 2+ goals in each of their previous five matches on home soil
  • Russia are after their fifth straight win on the road
  • Sbornaya outplayed France in their last meeting in Paris in a competitive match (2-3)
  • Antoine Griezmann scored his seventh goal for France against Netherlands

France vs Russia betting tip

France aim to keep on raising their form as they want to be at the top of their game when they kick off their Euro 2021 campaign. Les Tricolores are a real force to be reckoned with at home and seeing that they head into Tuesday’s game against Russia following the 3-2 win over Oranje, I am tempted to put my money on Didier Deschamps’ troops this time out.

Tip: France to win
