Paraguay vs Brazil prediction

Having dropped two points in the clash against Ecuador, Paraguay will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to three games when they take on South America giants Brazil at Estadio Defensores del Chaco on Wednesday.

Fine performance against La Tri

Despite being regarded as big underdogs in Thursday’s game against group leaders Ecuador, Paraguay played out a 2-2 draw with La Tri at Estadio Olimpico Atahualpa. La Albirroja were even on the verge of beating the Ecuadorians in Quito, but the hosts eventually scored the equalizing goal in the dying minutes of the match. Anyhow, Paraguay proved their worth in their last qualifier and they will be looking to build on the performance when they take on star-studded Brazil on Wednesday. Ramon Angel Diaz’s men are sitting in automatic qualification places, but they need to keep on improving their game if they are to make it to the 2018 World Cup finals. Dario Lezcano of Ingolstadt scored a brace in the 2-2 draw with Ecuador, meaning that the opposition defenders should have him at bay in the Estadio Defensores del Chaco clash.

Pablo Aguilar returns from suspension, while experienced attacker Roque Santa Cruz was forced to withdraw with injury. Coach Ramon Angel Diaz has no other selection worries ahead of the visit of Brazil. Ivan Piris could start after coming as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Ecuador.

Problems at the back

Brazil recorded a routine 3-0 win over Peru in the November qualifier, but despite breaking the deadlock in the first minute of Saturday’s game against Uruguay, the Selecao eventually shared the spoils with La Celeste. The World Cup semifinalists dropped a two-goal advantage in the clash against Oscar Tabarez’s troops, with the team experiencing all sorts of problems at the back. Carlos Dunga’s men aim to return to winning ways in the World Cup qualifiers and, no doubt, the South American giants will adopt an attack-minded approach in Wednesday’s game against Paraguay. Bayern Munich ace Douglas Costa found the net in the 2-2 draw with Luis Suarez and Co. and he is likely to prove a handful for the opposition back line. Barcelona ace Neymar failed to impress against La Celeste and given that he misses the Paraguay game through suspension, Benfica ace Jonas should lead the line for the visitors.

Thiago Silva and Lucas Moura have been left out of the squad, while Philippe Coutinho could be recalled to the starting line-up after he came as a substitute in the 2-2 draw with Uruguay. Key player Neymar misses the match through suspension.

Quick Facts

  • Paraguay are on a six-game unbeaten run at home
  • La Albirroja scored 2+ goals in three of their last four home games
  • Brazil recorded nine wins in last 11 matches on the road
  • Carlos Dunga’s men recorded their last win over Paraguay back in 2009
  • The Selecao are on a four-game unbeaten run at the moment

Paraguay vs Brazil betting tip

Brazil are superior to Paraguay, but seeing that Barcelona ace Neymar misses the game through suspension, I am not tempted to put my money on the Selecao this time out. La Albirroja are on a six-game unbeaten run at home ground and, taking everything into account, share of spoils appears on the cards. In their last meeting (2015 Copa America) Paraguay defeated Brazil on penalties.
