Germany vs Italy prediction

Germany want to make amends for the defeat against England and also to end the negative run against the Gli Azzurri. Italy lost a single game in their last eight away fixtures, so I believe we will witness an interesting match at Allianz Arena.

Low far from satisfied with the loss

Joakim Low was aggravated with the defeat against England (3-2), but did admit the Three Lions played well enough to earn a triumph, especially in the second half. Emre Can and Mesut Ozil were seen as the weakest links in the Nationalelf squad, despite the fact Ozil recorded yet another assist. Can proved to be a pale substitute for Philipp Lahm. The newspapers in Germany slapped both of them with the lowest marks for their below-par performance. Germany was two goals ahead half an hour before the end, but Vardy, Kane and Dier brought hell on Germany defenders and snatched a win. Thus Die Mannschaft recorded their third defeat in previous four matches and need to bounce back to winning ways as soon as possible. Even though these were friendly matches, the result always counts, so Kroos and Khedira did not write off the loss as a meaningless friendly. A victory in this match could prove as a morale-booster, but bear in mind that Germany did not record a triumph against Antonio Conte’s charges since 1995.

Max Kruse was dropped out of the team due to disciplinary measures, while Bastian Schweinsteiger is out because of injury and the question remains will he be able to play this summer. Jonathan Tah will not have his debut in good memory, but should be given a chance in the forthcoming clash as well. Mario Gotze, Skodran Mustafi and Julian Draxler are all pushing for a start.

Italy on a three-game winless run

The Gli Azzurri recorded their consecutive share of spoils on home soil, this time against Spain (1-1), which continued their winless streak to three games. Belgium are the only team that managed to triumph when hosting Antonio Conte’s men since June 2016 and put an end to Italy’s seven-game undefeated run on the road. The Italians rarely record defeats when away from home, but could consider a share of spoils as a positive result, given the current atmosphere within the team. Antonio Conte revealed he will leave the helm after the European Championships this summer, which was not accepted well from the Italian officials. Nevertheless, Conte’s team dominated Spain in their clash in Udine, but failed to take the entire pray, since Aritz Aduriz forced a draw two minutes after Insigne’s opener. I do expect the Italians will continue their goal scoring run when on their travels, giving the fans something to cheer about against Germany.

Milan’s Mattia De Sciglio joined the squad after the game with Spain and could take a place in the last line of defense. Thiago Motta took the place of his teammate, Marco Veratti and will probably start the game once again. Jorginho had a couple of minutes against Spain and should be given a proper chance to prove his worth against Germany, while El Shaarawy hopes for a spot in the starting line-up.

Quick Facts

  • Germany are on a seven-game winless run agaist Italy
  • Gli Azzuri are without a triumph in their last three fixtures
  • Joakim Low’s side lost three of their previous four matches
  • The Nationalelf saw over 2.5 goals per game when hosts six times in a row
  • Italy suffered a single defeat on their travels since June 2014 (W5 D2).

Germany vs Italy betting tip

Bearing in mind the current form of both teams, I would not dare to pick a sure winner this time out. However, Germany almost always net a goal when playing as hosts, while Italy filed to score on their travels just once in their last eleven away matches. This is why I believe both teams will find the net this time out.

Tip: Both teams to score – yes
