Inter vs Lazio prediction

Inter host fallen giants Lazio at San Siro in the final Serie A round before the winter break. The current league leaders want to treat their fans with a win, and thus continue the bright run of results. On the other hand, Lazio will be looking for a chance to end their winless streak.

Finish the year in good spirits

Thanks to the victory against Cagliari in the Coppa Italia, Internazionale are now on a three-game winning streak, with an incredible 8-0 goal difference. Roberto Mancini’s men have looked outstanding this season, they boast an 11-3-2 record in Serie A and are already crowned winter champions. While the Nerazzurri are not the most efficient team in the league, they can definitely thank their rock-solid defense for the current leading position. Inter are one of two teams in the entire Europe who amassed eleven clean sheets this term. The clash with Lazio will be a perfect opportunity to finish the year with a triumph, and keep their distance from Napoli and high-flying Juventus. This should not be a difficult task for the Nerazzurri, since they host a team who recorded a mere one away win this term. Team’s captain Icardi and Adem Ljajić, a man reborn in Inter colours this season, are expected to lead the attack on Lazio’s drafty defense.

When it comes to selection issues, Mancini will be happy to welcome back Gary Medel, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Davide Santon, but Nemaja Vidic remains in the infirmary due to his back problem.

Stefano Pioli under serious pressure

It looks like the game against current league leaders comes in the worst possible time for Lazio’s manager, Stefano Pioli. His team are on a seven-game winless run in Serie A at the moment. Even though the Biancocelesti recorded a win over Udineze in the cup, their performances this season have been below par, and this encounter could be the final one for Pioli. Lazio’s output in away games this season is miserable, six defeats in seven matches with 4-17 goal difference. If they do not arrest the negative trend soon, the White and Sky Blues risk to drop into the relegation zone. Judging by their away form, it seems highly unlikely that Pioli’s men will start their recovery against Inter, especially at San Siro.

Lazio will be without the likes of De Vrij (knee), Lulic (fractured finger), Kishna (knee), Marchetti (hamstring), Gentilett and Klose, while Basta is doubtful.

Quick Facts

  • Inter have kept a clean sheet 11 times this season
  • Mancini’s men won last four games at San Siro
  • Lazio are on a three-game winless run against Inter
  • The Biancocelesti are on a seven-game winless run in Serie A
  • Stefano Pioli’s men lost their last four away fixutres in Serie A
  • The Rome-based team recorded a single away win this term

Inter vs Lazio betting tip

Internazionale are in tremendous form this term and it seems that nothing can stop them in their Serie A title run. On the other hand, Lazio’s toothless attack and leaky defense do not leave a notion that they are capable of accomplishing any sort of success in this encounter. This is why I will bet on home win.

Tip: Home win
