Bordeaux vs Marseille prediction

Following a 3-0 win over Monaco in Coupe de la Ligue, Bordeaux will be looking to give the fans yet another reason for celebration when they host Olympique Marseille at their Stade Bordeaux-Atlantique on day 19 of the 2015/2021 Ligue 1 campaign.

Signs of improvement

Bordeaux have been in a fine form of late. Les Girondins did well to beat Guingamp (1-0) in their last home fixture in Ligue 1, with the team sharing the spoils with second-placed Angers at Stade Jean Bouin at the weekend. Willy Sagnol’s troops, though, failed to book their place in the Europa League knockout stages, meaning that they will be fully focused on the national championship in days to come. The team have big ambitions for the 2015/2021 Coupe de la Ligue campaign and it has to be noted that they head into Sunday’s game against Olympique Marseille following a 3-0 win over Monaco. Bordeaux have yet to record a win on the road this season, but they are tough to beat on home soil and you should bear in mind that they are eyeing their sixth home win of the season. Les Girondins have defeated the likes of Nantes, Lyon, Troyes, Monaco and Guingamp at their Stade Bordeaux-Atlantique in the 2015/2021 Ligue 1 campaign to date.

Coach Willy Sagnol can’t count on the likes of Sertic, Toure, Chantome, Jussie, Pablo, Gajic, Maurice-Belay and Maulun (all injury), while Nicolas Pallois is sidelined through suspension.

Eight-match unbeaten run

OIympique Marseille finished the 2014/2015 Ligue 1 campaign in sixth place in the standings and they are eager to regain their place in the Champions League this term. However, OM have been playing below expectations this season and, as a result, they sit in 9th place in the standings ahead of match day 19. Following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Rennes Michel’s team shared the spoils with the likes of Montpellier and Ajaccio in previous two league matches and it has to be noted that the Stade Velodrome outfit made it to the Europa League last 32. Marseille are on an eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions, but they need to pick up all three points from the Bordeaux game if they are to keep their hopes of booking their place in the Champions League alive. Michy Batshuayi has been scoring goals for fun this season and all eyes will be on the talented Belgian attacker when Bordeaux and Marseille take on each other in Sunday’s Ligue 1 showdown.

Romain Alessandrini and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou both miss the trip to Bordeaux with injury, but Lass Diarra should be fit to face les Girondins. Abou Diaby is yet another absentee in the away team.

Quick Facts

  • Bordeaux netted at least one goal in each of their previous four home matches in Ligue 1
  • Les Girondins have suffered only one loss in previous eight home games
  • Bordeaux have recorded three wins over Marseille in previous four home matches
  • Marseille are after their first ever win over Bordeaux at Stade Bordeaux-Atlantique
  • OM are on a four-match winning run on the road in the league
  • Marseille kept a clean sheet in each of their previous three away fixtures in Ligue 1

Bordeaux vs Marseille betting tip

Both Bordeaux and Olympique Marseille will go for a win in Sunday’s Ligue 1 derby. Les Girondins aim to escape the danger zone, whilst OM want to climb to the Champions League berth in the standings as soon as possible. Bordeaux impressed against Monaco in midweek and given OM’s brilliant away record, I believe that there is a big value in betting on both teams to score.

Tip: Both teams to score
