Ajaccio vs Lyon prediction

Olympique Lyon will be looking to bounce back from a heavy 5-1 loss to PSG when they square off against Gazelec Ajaccio at Stade Ange Casanova on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are on an eight-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1 and it remains to be seen if they are capable of making life difficult for les Gones.

Fine form

Gazelec Ajaccio experienced all sorts of problems at the start of the 2015/2021 Ligue 1 campaign. The newcomers were struggling to find their form back then, but the team rose from the dead and they are on an eight-game unbeaten run at the moment. Thierry Laurey’s troops are five points clear of the relegation zone and they head into Sunday’s game against Lyon following a 1-1 draw with Olympique Marseille at Stade Velodrome. Gazelec Ajaccio are undisputedly capable of matching top-table sides, but Sunday’s clash against les Gones will be anything but a walk in the park for the relegation strugglers. It has to be noted that Thierry Laurey’s men are unbeaten in six home matches in the national championship and you should bear in mind that they have netted at least one goal in each of those matches. In their last home game Ajaccio shared the spoils with Nantes, with Tshibumbu scoring a late equalizer for Les Gaziers et Le Bistrot.

The likes of Alassane Toure, Jules Goda and Pablo Martinez remain in the recovery room, while Gregory Pujol and Issiar Dia are both doubtful for the Olympique Lyon game.

Heartbreaking loss to PSG

Many people expected that Olympique Lyon would suffered a loss to PSG in Sunday’s Ligue 1 derby, but les Gones were totally outplayed by the defending champions (5-1) at Parc des Princes. However, Hubert Fournier’s troops returned to winning ways in midweek, with the team beating Tours in Coupe de la Ligue and they will be looking to build on the triumph when they face Gazelec Ajaccio in Sunday’s league game. Olympique Lyon are eager to regain their place in the Champions League berth and no doubt the visitors will adopt an attack-minded approach in the Stade Ange Casanova clash. You should know, though, that the visitors head into the match with a severely-weakened squad and that is the main reason why I am not tempted to put my money on Stade de Gerland outfit this time out. In Alexandre Lacazette’s absence Claudio Beauvue, who has netted four goals this season to date, will lead the attack for les Gones against Ajaccio.

Coach Hubert Fournier can’t count on the likes of Nabil Fekir, Alexandre Lacazette, Mathieu Valbuena, Samuel Umtiti, Aldo Kalulu and Gueida Fofana (all injury). Henri Bedimo, though, should recover in time to face Gazelec Ajaccio.

Quick Facts

  • Ajaccio are on a six-game unbeaten run at home ground
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Ajaccio’s last three home fixtures in Ligue 1
  • Thierry Laurey’s team suffered their last defeat in the national championship back in October
  • Olympique Lyon have netted no more than one goal in previous three away fixtures in Ligue 1
  • Les Gones have recorded only one win in last seven matches on the road
  • Hubert Fournier’s team have suffered four defeats in previous five league games

Ajaccio vs Lyon betting tip

Gazelec Ajaccio have been in a much better form of late than their next opponents Olympique Lyon. As I have already mentioned, Les Gaziers et Le Bistrot are tough to beat at home ground and seeing that the visitors head into the match with a severely-weakened squad, I believe that there is a certain value in betting on the in-form hosts this time out. Les Gones have been struggling on the travels of late and I am positive that Ajaccio will pick up at least one point from Sunday’s Ligue 1 match.

Tip: Ajaccio not to lose
