PSG vs Lorient prediction

Paris Saint-Germain will be aiming to build on a 2-0 win at Saint Etienne when they host Lorient at their Parc des Princes on Wednesday night. Les Parisiens are on the right track to defend their Ligue 1 title, but les Merlus should not be underestimated.

Parisiens eyeing their 15th consecutive win

PSG occupy top position in the Ligue 1 standings ahead of Matchday 24 and they are 24 points clear of second-placed Monaco. However, despite having such a big advantage over their nearest challenger les Parisiens do not want to stop winning. Laurent Blanc’s troops are on a 14-game winning run in all competitions and they will be looking to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Lorient at their Parc des Princes. PSG have been impressive at home ground this season and seeing that they face Olympique Marseille at Stade Velodrome on Matchday 25, I am positive that the hosts will go all guns blazing at les Merlus on Wednesday evening. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been in a thrilling form of late and he is eager to extend his goal-scoring run after scoring a brace in a 2-0 win over Saint Etienne at the weekend.

Laurent Blanc has a number of selection worries as Adrien Rabiot, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Salvatore Sirigu, Javier Pastore and David Luiz all miss the game with injury. Gregory van der Wiel is injured as well, while Layvin Kurzawa is out of contention through illness.

Important win over Reims

Following back-to-back defeats to the likes of Monaco and Nice, Lorient returned to winning ways in Ligue 1 at the weekend, with the team beating Reims (2-0) in front of home fans. The victory over Reims lifted les Merlus to 12th position in the standings and they are now ten points clear of the relegation zone. The team’s main goal is to finish the season in top ten, but I do not believe they should be looking for points in Wednesday’s game against high-flying PSG. Lorient recorded only one win in previous eight away games in Ligue 1 and they certainly face an uphill task in the Parc des Princes clash. Anyhow, Sylvain Ripoll’s troops are likely to stick to their attacking style of play. The good news for the fans is that Troyes winger Jimmy Cabot has joined the club and he is likely to help the team improve their game.

The likes of Fofana, Gakpa and Lautoa all miss the trip to the “City of Lights” with injury, while January signing Jimmy Cabot could make his Lorient debut against PSG.

Quick Facts

  • PSG are eyeing their 12th consecutive win at home ground
  • Les Parisiens scored 11 goals in previous four games
  • Laurent Blanc’s men suffered their last home defeat in Ligue 1 on 7 May, 2015
  • Lorient are after their only third away win of the season
  • Les Merlus managed to keep only one clean sheet on the road this season

PSG vs Lorient betting tip

Paris Saint-Germain are enjoying yet another season to remember. Les Parisiens want to set as many records as possible and considering that they face Olympique Lyon in the Ligue 1 derby on day 25, there is every chance the hosts will take Wednesday’s game against Lorient seriously. Laurent Blanc can count on his key attackers for the game, but seeing that important defenders miss the match, I would not be surprised if les Merlus find the net in the Parc des Princes clash. Taking everything into account, over 2.5 goals bet should be considered.

Tip: Over 2.5 goals
