Arsenal vs Crystal Palace prediction

The Gunners will look to continue their winning streak against the Eagles this Sunday afternoon, since Arsenal aim to finish the current season in top 3, securing the Champions League group stage. Crystal Palace arrive at the Emirates in high spirits, given their recent unbeaten run in the league.

Arsenal need a victory

Arsenal shared the spoils with West Ham United in a high-scoring encounter at Boleyn Ground last week (3-3), and we can now honestly say that their chances for lifting the Premier League trophy in May are minimal, since they now trail thirteen behind the Foxes. A positive thing for Wenger is that Iwobi is turning into a top-class player, since his two assists were crucial in securing the draw against the Hammers. The Nigerian starlet found his place on the left flank of the offensive line and will probably remain there for the rest of the season. With nine goals in their last three fixtures, the Gunners proved they are back to goal-scoring ways and, bearing in mind that their forwards are always efficient in their clashes with the Eagles, we can expect the continuation of the positive trend. Arsenal need a victory, since the Citizens are only two points behind and Wenger wants to secure the position number three in the overall standings, so we can expect the team from Holloway will try to take the matter into their own hands from the very start of the match.

The French tactician stated that Cazorla could be back in full training next week, while Jack Wilshere will play for the under-21s in order to regain his fitness. That only leaves Jenkinson in the recovery room, as all the other players are fully fit.

The Eagles still without an away win in 2016

Even though Crystal Palace have an eleven-point safety cushion between them and the relegation zone, they still need to earn additional points until the end of the term to secure their place in the Premiership next season. The Eagles are on a three-game undefeated run in the league, the performance against the Hammers at Boleyn Ground could serve as a good recipe for their forthcoming clash if they plan to arrest the negative trend at Emirates Stadium. However, Palace’s away record in 2016 is far from impressive, since they still look for a win on their travels. The offense have been doing their part of the job in recent matches, but the defenders simply cannot stop the opposition attacks when on the road. Connor Wickham scored his last four goals in away fixtures and could pose a significant threat to Arsenal if given a chance. Bearing everything in mind, a point from this match would be a huge success for Alan Pardew’s charges.

Pardew will be without the likes of Brede Hangelad (knock), James McArthur (ankle) and Marouane Chamakh (groin), who are still recovering from their injuries.

Quick Facts

  • Arsenal won their last six games with the Eagles
  • The Gunners lost a single match on home turf against Palace
  • Wenger’s side have been blowing hot and cold at Emirates of late
  • The team from South Norwood achieved their last away triumph in December
  • More than 2.5 goals were seen in their last three encounters

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace betting tip

Arsenal will rely on tradition in the forthcoming match, given their six-game winning record against Alan Pardew’s charges. The Eagles have been highly productive on the road in recent matches and could find the net once again, so we can expect a lot of fireworks. Even so, I do not reckon Crystal Palace are capable of surprising the Gunners at Emirates, so I will bet on the home team.
