Sampdoria vs Milan prediction

New coach Cristian Brocchi will be looking to mark his Milan debut with a win over Sampdoria on day 33 of the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign. The Rossoneri are eyeing a place in the European competitions, but Sunday’s game at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris could be crucial for La Samp, who are desperate to secure the top flight survival.

Fight for survival

Thanks to a 2-0 win over Udinese Sampdoria put an end to their three-game winless run in the league. La Samp, though, still sit in the danger zone in the Serie A standings and, no doubt, Sunday’s game against Milan is of big importance for the hosts. Vincenzo Montella’s men are eight points clear of the relegation zone and it has to be noted that the team face a tough fixture list in days to come. Sampdoria are tough to beat at home and seeing that they suffered only one loss in in last five home games, I would not be surprised if the hosts grab something from Sunday’s league match. La Samp, though, failed to beat Milan in last seven meetings between the two teams in all competition and it remains to be seen if they are capable of putting an end to the negative trend.

The likes of Sala, Ivan and Carbonero all miss the match with injury, but there are no suspended players in the home team. Experienced attacker Antonio Cassano is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day.

Goodbye, Sinisa!

After failing to record a win in last five league matches with Milan Serbian coach Sinisa Mihajlovic got fired. The club chiefs have appointed Cristian Brocchi as the new boss and it remains to be seen if the former Milan midfielder is going to help the team book their place in the European competitions. The Rossoneri have been slipping down the standings of late, but a win over Sampdoria could see the Italian giants keep their hopes of making it to the Europa League alive. Milan are on a five-game winless run in the Serie A ahead of the trip to Genoa and they head into the match following a 2-1 loss to Juventus at their Stadio San Siro. Mario Balotelli failed to impress in the defeat to Juve, but seeing that Luiz Adriano is out of contention, the former Man City attacker should be deployed up front alongside Carlos Bacca.

Luiz Adriano and Niang are both sidelined with injury, but new coach Cristian Brocchi has no other selection worries ahead of the Sampdoria game.

Quick Facts

  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Sampdoria’s last four league matches
  • Sampdoria managed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four home games
  • Milan are on a five-game winless run in the league
  • Rossoneri recorded their last win on the road on 3 February (Palermo)
  • Milan are undefeated in last seven meetings with Sampdoria

Sampdoria vs Milan betting tip

Milan have been totally out of form of late, but it remains to be seen if the arrival of the new boss is going to help the team improve their game. Sampdoria are tough to beat on home soil and seeing that the Rossoneri are on a four-match winless run on the road, I do not believe that we will see goals galore in Genoa on Sunday evening.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals

Odds: 1.80 (4/5) @bet365
