Nice vs Angers prediction

Nice and Angers square off against each other at Allianz Arena on day 21 of the 2015/2016 Ligue 1 campaign. With only four points separating the two teams in the standings, there is every chance we will see a close encounter in Nice.

Nice eyeing a place in European competitions

After suffering elimination in Coupe de France, Nice played out a 1-1 draw with Lille in their last league game. Les Aiglons sit in fourth place in the standings and they are eyeing a spot in European competitions, but it remains to be seen if they are capable of meeting the goal. The club owners did well to reinforce the squad in the summer transfer window, but they need to keep hold of key players if they are to keep on making progress. Nice have not been impressive in front of goal of late, scoring just three goals in previous six league matches, but, on the other hand, they look strong defensively. Friday’s game against Angers is of big importance for Les Aiglons as a win over the second-placed side would see the hosts establish themselves as one of the main contenders to book a place in the Europa League. A man to watch in the home team will be former Newcastle United ace Hatem Ben Arfa.

The likes of Le Marchand, Bodmer, Pouplin, Traore, Plea and Le Bihan are all sidelined with injury, whilst Koziello miss the match through suspension.

The dream continues

Angers have been playing above all expectations this season. The newcomers occupy second place in the Ligue 1 standings and they have already made several major scalps in the 2015/2016 campaign. The team recorded a 2-0 win over Caen at the weekend and it has to be noted that they managed to keep their 12th clean sheet of the season. Stephane Moulin’s men are high on confidence ahead of the trip to Nice and they are certainly capable of making life difficult for les Aiglones. You should have in mind, though, that Angers failed to score in three of their previous five away games in Ligue 1 and it remains to be seen if Stephane Moulin’s attackers will find their scoring boots on Friday evening. Anyhow, les scoistes would be happy with one point from the game and I would not be surprised if they adopt a cautious approach in the Allianz Riviera clash.

Coach Stephane Moulin can’t count on the likes of Sissoko, Bouka Moutou, Karanovic, Eudeline and Dore, but he has no fresh injury worries ahead of the Nice game. Vilayphone Ketkeophomphone is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up after he scored in the 2-0 win over Caen.

Quick Facts

  • Nice have yet to record back-to-back wins at home ground this season
  • Les Aiglons recorded their last win over Angers in 2000
  • Angers scored two goals in previous four away games
  • Stephane Moulin’s team are eyeing their 13th clean sheet of the season
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in Angers’ last ten league games

Nice vs Angers betting tip

Nice and Angers seem to be evenly matched at the moment. The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixtures and seeing that the visitors have been impressive at the back this season, I would not be surprised if we see a low-scoring affair at Allianz Riviera. Both teams will be happy with one point from the match and I believe that there is a certain value in betting on draw. When the two teams met at Stade Jean Bouin earlier this season Mangani scored for the newcomers, with Germain scoring the equalizer for les Aiglons.
