Getafe vs Villarreal prediction

Fresh from their UEFA Europa League triumph during the week, travelling Villarreal are taking on Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez in the first La Liga Sunday match programme fixture at noon.

Getafe looking to end the negative run

Los Azulones are experiencing a poor patch, as they are running on a four-game winless streak. Getafe have lost three of those four La Liga matches, which saw them drop to the 16th place in the standings. Fran Escriba’s men have collected only 11 points from 12 rounds and will be faced with a tough relegation struggle this season. Getafe are coming off from a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano last Monday with both goals being scored by midfielder Jozabed, who was unfortunate to score an own goal on the hour-mark. Escriba’s troops have been struggling with efficiency this season, as 12 goals in as many games are not to be described as the most proficient record. Stefan Scepovic has been the club’s top scorer so far, with just three goals on his tally and the 25-year-old Serbian striker will be expected to make his mark on Sunday as well. However, Getafe have seen under 2.5 goals in their last five home games against Villarreal in all competitions and that is something that has to be taken under consideration.

The good news for the hosts is that Fran Escriba will have almost full crop of players to choose from. Alexis and Damian Suarez return from their suspensions and Alvaro Medran remains the only absentee, who will sit out through the game with injury.

Villarreal struggling on the road

The Yellow Submarine are travelling to Getafe looking to improve their poor form away from home. Villarreal have managed to record only two wins in their last two away games in all competitions, with their last game on the road being a 3-0 loss to Barcelona. Marcelino’s side will be particularly motivated to record a positive result on Sunday following their successful Europa League showings against Rapid Vienna at El Madrigal. Villarreal have recorded a 1-0 win which saw them secure the knock-out stage of the competition and will be hoping to build up on the win as they travel to Getafe. Villarreal are currently occupying the fourth place in the standings, level on points with Celta Vigo. Claiming the maximum points at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez would see them keep up to the third-placed Real Madrid who are only three points ahead in the table. Cedric Bakambu is leading the Villarreal scoring charts with four goals in nine appearances for the Yellow Submarine this season, but Marcelino will be hoping that other strikers will join in. It is worth mentioning that Villarreal have failed to score in their last three away matches in La Liga and that is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Roberto Soldado and Jaume Costa are unavailable through suspension, while Sergio Asenjo, Leo Baptistao, Adrian and Daniele Bonera are all having injury problems.

Getafe vs Villarreal betting tip

Both sides are having problems in the scoring department and that is one aspect that need to be taken seriously ahead of the Sunday game. I predict a low-scoring game and under 2.5 goals is on the cards.
