Saint Etienne vs Guingamp prediction

Saint-Etienne will be looking to put an end to their three-game winless run in all competitions when they take on Guingamp at their Stade Geoffroy-Guichard on Sunday afternoon. The visitors head into the match following a 2-0 win over Toulouse, but it remains to be seen if they are capable of claiming a major scalp on day 15 of the 2015/2021 Ligue 1 campaign.

Home soil – big advantage

Thanks to a 1-1 draw with Rosenborg on Thursday evening Saint-Etienne booked their place in the Europa League knockout stages. Les Verts obviously have big ambitions for the European competition, but they will give their best to finish the season in top three in the Ligue 1 standings as well. Christophe Galtier’s troops suffered back-to-back defeats to the likes of Lyon and Marseille in previous two league matches, but they face a much easier fixture list in days to come. Saint-Etienne aim to return to winning ways and it has to be noted that they are after their fifth home win of the season. Les Verts have kept three clean sheets in previous five home fixtures in the national championship and it is no surprise they are regarded as favourites in Sunday’s game against Guingamp. However, you should have in mind that coach Christophe Galtier has a number of selection worries ahead of the clash.

The likes of Kevin Theophile-Catherine, Moustapha Bayal Sall, Florentin Pogba, Robert Beric and Fabien Lemoine are all sidelined with injury, while Calentin Eysseric is doubtful and he will be assessed on the match day.

Important win over Toulouse

Guingamp suffered a 2-1 loss to Caen in their last away fixture in the Ligue 1, but they quickly recovered from the defeat. Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men defeated Toulouse at their Stade du Roudourou and they will be looking to build on the triumph when they take on Saint-Etienne at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. Guingamp occupy tenth position in the LIgue 1 standings at the moment and they are no less than ten points clear of the relegation zone. The Stade du Roudourou outfit are on the right track to secure yet another top flight survival, but it is too early to draw conclusions. Sloan Privat found the net in the 2-0 win over Toulouse and he is likely to keep his place in the starting XI, alongside former Olympique Lyon star Jimmy Briand, who has netted three goals in 13 appearances this season. It has to be noted that Guingamp are after their first ever win over Saint-Etienne at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Maxime Baca, Lionel Mathis and Mamadou Samassa all miss the game with injury, whilst Benjamin Angoua is a major doubt and he will be monitored ahead of the kick-off.

Saint Etienne vs Guingamp betting tip

As I have already mentioned, Saint-Etienne are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but seeing that the hosts head into the match with a severely-weakened squad, I am not tempted to put my money on les Verts this time out. Guingamp proved their worth in the 2-0 victory over Toulouse and seeing that no more than three points separate the two sides in the Ligue 1 standings, I believe that there is a certain value in betting on draw.
