Betis vs Sevilla prediction

All eyes will be on Estadio Benito Villamarin when the two local rivals Real Betis and Sevilla face each other in yet another Seville derby. The two bitter opponents take on each other in Copa del Rey last 16, first leg, and it remains to be seen who will have a reason for celebration on Wednesday evening.

Poor form

Real Betis finished 2015 with a 4-0 loss to Barcelona and, to make things even worse for the fans, coach Pepe Mel saw his men slip to yet another heavy loss in their first game of the new year. Los Beticos were outclassed by Eibar in front of home fans (0-4) at the weekend, but, no doubt, the club chiefs still have faith in Pepe Mel, who is on his second spell with the Estadio Benito Villamarin outfit. Real Betis are on a six-game winless run in all competitions and they are desperate to put an end to the negative trend. Seeing that los Beticos face their fiercest rivals Sevilla in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey game, coach Pepe Mel is unlikely to mix the squad this time out. The team’s top scorer s Ruben Castro and he is likely to pose a big threat for the opposition back line in the first leg.

Coach Pepe Mel returns from suspension, while Rafael van der Vaart has overcome his injury and he could play some part in the Copa del Rey clash. Molinero and Tarek are definitely out of contention with injury.

Difficulties on the road

Sevilla have been producing outstanding performances at their Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this season, but they have been struggling on the travels. Los Sevillanos have yet to record an away win in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign and they head into Wednesday’s Seville derby following a 2-1 loss at Granada. Unai Emery’s men blew their chance to climb to sixth place in the standings and they are desperate to make amends for the defeat. Emery has a number of high-profile players to choose from, but the team need to start producing much better performances on the road if they are to keep their hopes of making it to the Champions League qualifiers alive. Fernando Llorente has been struggling to find his form this season, but the “Lion King” is widely expected to lead the attack for the visitors against Real Betis. You should have in mind that the former Athletic Bilbao ace has netted no more than three goals in La Liga this season.

Adil Rami was sent off against Granada, but he is available for selection. Midfielder Vicente Iborra is banned, but coach Unai Emery has no fresh injury worries ahead of the Copa del Rey match.

Quick Facts

  • Real Betis failed to score in previous four league games
  • Pepe Mel’s men failed to beat Sevilla in previous three meetings between the two sides
  • Los Beticos scored only one goal in previous four matches on home soil
  • Sevilla have recorded only one away win this season (Copa del Rey)
  • Under 2.5 goals were scored in six of Sevilla’s previous seven games

Betis vs Sevilla betting tip

Regardless of how the two teams are faring at the time a close encounter is always expected in the Seville derby. Betis and Sevilla played out a goalless draw at Estadio Benito Villamarin earlier this season (La Liga) and seeing that los Sevillanos struggle on the travels, there is every chance we will see a low-scoring affair in Wednesday’s derby. Los Beticos failed to score in previous four league matches and I would not be surprised if they fail to their goalless run.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
