Udinese vs Atalanta prediction

Udinese will be keen to beat Atalanta in their first match in 2016 and regain their place in the top half of the Serie A standings. The Orobici aim to bounce back from a loss to Napoli, meaning that an interesting encounter is on the cards.

Morale-boosting win over Torino

Udinese badly needed a win against Torino and they got one. The team managed to put heavy defeats to the likes of Fiorentina and Inter behind them and they are now on a quest to climb to the top half of the table. The Zebrette are two points behind tenth-placed Lazio and a win over Atalanta on Wednesday could see them regain their spot in top ten. It seems as if coach Stefano Colantuono has yet to coax the best out of his squad and I believe that game against the Orobici could be the turning point for the Stadio Communale Friuli outfit. Antonio Di Natale has been struggling to find his form of late and it has to be noted that he failed to score in previous nine league games. It is well known that Udinese are tough to beat and the fact that they have kept three clean sheets in previous four home games in Serie A is giving the fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of Atalanta.

Wague was sent off against Torino and he will have to serve his ban against Atalanta. Merkel and Zapata are both injured, while Kone is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day.

Back-to-back defeats

Following back-to-back wins over Roma and Palermo Atalanta experienced all sorts of problems in final two games of the last year. The Orobici suffered a 1-0 loss to Chievo in Verona and they head into Wednesday’s encounter against after a 3-1 loss to title-chasing Napoli. The visitors are low on confidence ahead of the trip to Udine and seeing that they have not been impressive on the travels this season, I do not believe that away win should be considered this time out. Edu Reja’s men scored in only one away match since November and they certainly face an uphill task in Wednesday’s game against Udinese. German Denis is not as sharp as he used to be in the past and the opposition defenders are unlikely to find it hard to contain the Argentine attacker. The 34-year-old forward has netted only three goals in 11 appearances for Atalanta this season.

Paletta misses the match through suspension, while Pinilla, Carmona and Raimondi are all sidelined with injury. Coach Edu Reja, though, has no other selection worries ahead of the Udinese game.

Quick Facts

  • Udinese have kept three clean sheets in last five home matches
  • Zebrette defeated Atalanta in previous two meetings at “Friuli”
  • Udinese suffered their last defeat to Atalanta at home back in 2009
  • Atalanta scored only two goals in previous six away games
  • Orobici suffered a 3-1 loss to Udinese at “Friuli” (Coppa Italia) in December

Atalanta vs Udinese betting tip

A win over Atalanta will see Udinese get level on points with the Orobici in the Serie A standings. Thanks to the triumph at Torino the team regained a much-needed confidence and seeing that Edu Reja’s men are not regarded as good travelers, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the hosts this time out. Udinese are after their third consecutive win over Atalanta at “Friuli” and, taking everything into account, the visitors should return home empty-handed.

Tip: Udinese to win
