Eibar vs Las Palmas prediction

Eibar will be aiming to build on back-to-back wins over Sporting Gijon and Real Betis when they square off against Las Palmas in Copa del Rey last 16, first leg. Los Armeros have been in a thrilling form of late, but they can’t afford any complacency in Thursday’s cup game.

Thrilling win at Real Betis

Eibar were more than fortunate not to drop to Segunda Division last season, but they have been producing terrific displays in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign. Los Armeros suffered a 2-0 loss to Deportivo at Estadio Municipal de Riazor in December, but it has to be noted that they were a better side during the match. Anyhow, Jose Luis Mendillibar’s team quickly bounced back from the defeat, with the team beating Sporting Gijon in their final game in 2015. Eibar then produced the best performance of the season as they demolished Real Betis (4-0), who have been impressive at the back this term. Seeing that los Armeros had a very busy schedule during Christmas holidays, I would not be surprised if coach Jose Luis Mendillibar uses the Copa del Rey game against Las Palmas to rest his first-team regulars.

The likes of Saul Berjon, Borja Baston and Eddy Israfilov are all pushing for a start, while Dos Santos, Junca and Jaime are all sidelined with injury.

Amarillos showed character against Athletic

Las Palmas have been in a fine form of late. The newcomers did well to beat the likes of Real Betis and Granada in previous two home fixtures in La Liga, with the team coming from behind to share the spoils with Athletic Bilbao at San Mames at the weekend. The fresh confidence of the team will be tested in Thursday’s Copa del Rey clash against Eibar and the visitors will be aiming to score an away goal in the first leg, which should help them move one step closer to booking their place in the Spanish Cup quarter-finals. Los Amarillos, though, are not regarded as good travelers and you should bear in mind that they are still eyeing their first away win of the season. As I have already mentioned, Las Palmas prove their worth in the 2-2 draw with Athletic Bilbao and they are certainly high on confidence ahead of the trip to the Basque Country.

Roque Mesa returns from suspension, whilst Willian Jose and Hernan are both out of contention with injury. Alcaraz, Castellano, Angel Lopez and Pedro Bigas are sidelined with injury as well.

Quick Facts

  • Eibar are unbeaten in previous three meetings with Las Palmas
  • Los Armeros have kept three clean sheets in last four league games
  • The Basque side conceded only one goal in previous three meetings with Las Palmas
  • Las Palmas recorded their last away win in La Liga back in 2001
  • Amarillos have kept only one clean sheet in previous five away games
  • Quique Setien’s men recorded their last win Estadio Municipal de Ipurua back in 2008

Eibar vs Las Palmas betting tip

Both sides have been manufacturing fine showings of late, but given Las Palmas’ poor away record, I do not believe that the visitors are capable of spoiling Eibar’s party at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua. Los Armeros impressed in the 4-0 victory over Real Betis and, taking everything into account, the in-form hosts should be backed. Eibar demolished Ponferradina at home ground in Copa del Rey last 32, with the team overcoming a three-goal deficit in the tie against the Segunda Division side.

Tip: Eibar to win
