Schalke starlet Donis Avdijaj has announced that he will be representing the Germany national team after all.
The former Germany Under-19 international decided to reject a call from die Mannschaft in October 2015 as he planned to switch his allegiance to Albania.
Having since impressed while on loan at Sturm Graz, Avdijaj had a chance to make Albania’s Euro 2016 squad, but he has now changed his mind and decided to make himself available for selection to Germany youth coaches.
“I had already said in 2015 that the request of Albania was a great honour for me,” Avdijaj told Sport Bild.
“However, that (decision) was made due to illness and lack of match practise. I was not strong enough.”
Avdijaj is widely regarded as one of Germany’s hottest prospects and he has scored 12 goals in 17 appearances for the youth national teams.
He also netted eight times in 33 appearances for Sturm Graz and will probably be returning to Schalke in the summer.
