CSKA Moscow vs Wolfsburg prediction

Arena Khimki will host Wednesday’s Champions League clash between CSKA and Wolfsburg. Both teams are eyeing a place in the knockout stages and it remains to be seen who will have a reason for celebration this time out.

Must-win situation

CSKA have been having their ups and downs in the 2015/2016 Champions League campaign. The Russian outfit have recorded one win, one draw and two defeats in the process and, as a result, they sit in the last position in Group B ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Wolfsburg. The Armeitsy need to record a win over the Bundesliga side if they are to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive and no doubt the hosts will go all guns blazing at the Wolves when the two sides take on each other at Arena Khimki. On the other hand, Leonid Slutsky’s men are leading the chase for the Russian Premier League trophy and, taking everything into account, the capital club are enjoying yet another successful season. It has to be noted, though, that CSKA are on a four-game losing run in all competitions ahead of the Wolfsburg game and it remains to be seen if they are capable of putting an end to the negative trend.

Vassili Berezutski is sidelined with injury, while Roman Eremenko is doubtful and he will be monitored ahead of the kick-off. Seydou Doumbia is likely to lead the attack for the hosts against Wolfsburg.

Six reasons for optimism

Wolfsburg continue their habit of producing brilliant performances at home ground, but the team have been struggling on the travels in the 2015/2016 Champions League campaign. The Wolves have defeated the likes of CSKA and PSV at their Volkswagen Arena, but they have yet to pick up a point from away fixtures in Group B. The Bundesliga side are sitting in third place in the standings and they are level on points with second-placed PSV ahead of the penultimate group game. Dieter Hecking’s team head into the match following a thrilling 6-0 Werder Bremen and that is certainly giving the home fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of the Armeitsy. Max Kruse scored a brace in the victory over Werder and the former Schalke man will be a danger for the opposition defenders. Anyhow, the Wolves are likely to stick to their attacking style of play when they take on CSKA at Khimki Arena on Wednesday evening.

Robin Knoche is rated doubtful and he will be assessed on the match day, while Felipe Lopes is definitely out of contention. Naldo and Daniel Caligiuri are both one yellow card away from suspension. Bas Dost is likely to be deployed up front as a lone striker.

CSKA Moscow vs Wolfsburg betting tip

Both CSKA and Wolfsburg will surely go for a win in Wednesday’s clash in Moscow and a lively contest is on the cards. Both sides are capable of scoring a lot of goals and seeing that the Wolves head into the match following the 6-0 victory over Werder Bremen and I would not be surprised if we see goals galore at Khimki Arena. Wolfsburg recorded a hard-fought 1-0 over CSKA, but I believe that both teams will score this time out. In their last meeting in Moscow the Armeitsy recorded a 2-1 win over the Bundesliga team.

Tip: Both teams to score

Odds: 1.69 (7/10) at 10Bet
