Villarreal vs Barcelona prediction

Having eliminated Arsenal in the Champions League last 16 Barcelona will be looking to extend their winning run to 13 games in La Liga when they take on Villarreal at Camp el Madrigal. The Yellow Submarine are eyeing a place in the Champions League and it remains to be seen if they are capable of upsetting the title holders.

Poor performance against Sevilla

Villarreal are still sitting in the Champions League berth in La Liga standings, but Sunday’s 4-2 defeat to Sevilla might prove fatal for the Camp Rl Madrigal outfit. The Yellows are just five points clear of fifth-placed Sevillanos in the standings and given that Marcelino’s men take on Barcelona at their Camp El Madrigal on Sunday, Unai Emery’s team could melt Villarreal’s advantage to just two points. Sunday’s game against the defending champions is of big importance for the hosts and I am positive that they will fight tooth and nail in order to pick up one point from the match. Villarreal are eyeing their 12th home win of the season, but they will have a mountain to climb this time out. Roberto Soldado returns to the starting line-up, but it is well known that the experienced striker has been struggling to find his goal-scoring touch in the 2015/2016 La Liga campaign.

Samuel and Jonathan dos Santos remain in the recovery room, while Jaume Costa, Mateo Musacchio and Alphonse Areola are all rated doubtful for the Barcelona game.

They are from another planet

Barcelona look unstoppable at the moment. The Catalan giants are on a 12-game winning run in La Liga and they will be looking to move one step closer to defending the domestic trophy with a victory over Villarreal at Camp el Madrigal. Luis Enrique’s men recorded a 3-1 win over Arsenal on Wednesday evening and, as a result, the team booked their place in the Champions League quarter-finals where they will be facing Atletico Madrid in the two-legged tie. Leo Messi scored a wonder goal in the victory over Arsenal, with Luis Suarez and Neymar finding the net in the Camp Nou showdown as well. All eyes will be on the MSN trio when Barca take on Villarreal at Camp El Madrigal and it remains to be seen if the title holders are capable of recording their eighth consecutive win over Marcelino’s men in all competitions.

Gerard Pique returns to the starting line-up after missing the Arsenal game through suspension, while Sandro Ramirez is sidelined with injury. Coach Luis Enrique has no other injury worries ahead of the trip to Villarreal.

Quick Facts

  • Barcelona are eyeing their 13th consecutive win in La Liga
  • Luis Enrique’s men scored 2+ goals in previous 12 league games
  • Barca are after their 8th straight win over Villarreal
  • Villarreal recorded five wins in last six home matches
  • Yellows failed to score in three of their last five games in all competitions

Villarreal vs Barcelona betting tip

Barcelona are undisputedly the best team in the world at the moment and seeing that Luis Enrique has a full squad to choose from ahead of the Villarreal game, I believe that the Catalans are likely to extend their impressive winning run in the league. The Yellow Submarine do not seem to be at the top of their game at the moment and, taking everything into account, the league leaders are likely to pick up all three points from the Camp el Madrigal clash.
