Leonardo Gil tempted by potential Chile call-up

Leonardo Gil tempted by potential Chile call-upEstudiantes midfielder Leonardo Roque Gil has moved to reveal that he is excited by the prospect of representing the Chilean national team.

The 24-year-old is eligible to represent La Roja through his maternal grandmother and he appears to be in the first team plans of national team coach Jorge Sampaoli.

The likes of Mauro Zarate and Francisco Rodriguez have so far rejected Chile call-ups, but Leonardo Gil has no intention of doing so.

“The fact that the coach (Jorge Sampaoli) has called and asked about me makes me very proud,” the midfielder was quoted as saying.

Sampaoli talked to Estudiantes boss Gabriel Milito to learn more about the talented footballer and there is every chance Gil could play a part in Chile’s 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Leonardo Gil, who joined the Argentine giants from Olimpo last January, is capable of playing as a central midfielder and on the left-hand side and he did well to start 12 league matches this term, scoring one goal.
