Netherlands coach Danny Blind has received some more bad news ahead of the crucial Euro 2021 qualifiers as key attacker Klaas Jan Huntelaar suffered injury in training.
The Ajax icon will debut on the national team bench in September qualifiers against Iceland and Turkey after replacing Guus Hiddink earlier this summer.
Oranje are in a difficult position ahead of the final four games seeing as they trail Iceland and Czech Republic five and three points respectively, but they are, nonetheless, 2.10 (11/10) favourites to win Group A.
That is not going to be an easy job considering that Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Stefan de Vrij all struggle through injury, with Klaas Han Huntelaar the latest player to be rated doubtful for the September games.
The highly rated forward picked up a foot injury in training and it has yet to be revealed whether he will be available for Iceland and Turkey games.
The 32-year-old has been in very good form of late, scoring in each of Schalke’s two games this season, while bagging three goals in last four appearances for the national team.
