Newcastle United vs Chelsea betting prediction

Chelsea will be aiming to build on a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the London derby when they take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on day seven of the 2015/2021 Premier League campaign. It has been four years since the Blues last defeated the Magpies in Newcastle and Jose Mourinho’s men will surely give 100% to put an end to the negative trend.

Four-game losing run

Newcastle United have been struggling to find their form at the start of the 2015/2021 Premier League campaign. The Magpies have collected no more than two points from possible 18 and, as a result, they sit in the penultimate position in the standings at the moment. Steve McClaren’s men were beaten by newly-promoted Watford at the weekend, with the team suffering elimination in the Capital One Cup in midweek. Newcastle United were defeated by Sheffield Wednesday at their St. James’ Park on Wednesday (0-1) and no doubt coach Steve McClaren is under big pressure ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Chelsea. The Magpies outplayed the Blues in last three meetings at St. James’ Park and that is surely giving the fans a reason for optimism.

Massadio Haidara is a major doubt and he will be assessed on the match day. Fabricio Coloccini is likely to be recalled to the starting line-up, whilst striker Aleksandar Mitrovic returns from suspension.

Signs of improvement

Title holders Chelsea did not kick off the new Premier League campaign in style, with the team suffering three losses in six league matches. However, the Blues gave the fans something to cheer about at the weekend as they defeated Arsenal 2-0 in the city derby. Diego Costa, though, was handed a three-match ban for violent conduct during the clash against Arsene Wenger’s troops. In Costa’s absence Eden Hazard will be the man to watch in the away side and the Belgian midfielder will surely pose a big threat for Newcastle United defenders on Saturday. Chelsea face a must-win situation in the game against Steve McClaren’s troops and no doubt the visitors will give their hearts on the field in order to pick up all three points from the match. It has to be noted, though, that Jose Mourinho’s men have recorded no more than one win on the travels in the 2015/2021 Premier League campaign, with the team beating WBA at the Hawthorns last month. Radamel Falcao is widely expected to lead the line for the visitors against Newcastle United, but Jose Mourinho may also decide to give a chance to Loic Remy, who scored in a 4-1 win over Walsall in midweek.

Diego Costa is banned, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is sidelined with a knee injury. Willian is unlikely to recover in time to face Newcastle United.

Newcastle United vs Chelsea betting tip

Both Newcastle United and Chelsea have been struggling at the start of the season and no doubt both teams will go for a win in Saturday’s match at St. James’ Park. Diego Costa will miss the match through suspension, but Jose Mourinho has a number of high-profile players to choose from and I believe that the Blues are capable of recording their first win over Magpies on the road since 2011.
