AS Roma vs Carpi prediction

After the 2-1 loss to Sampdoria saw AS Roma slip to ninth in the league standings, the Giallorossi will be desperate to return to winning ways when they host newly-promoted Carpi at Stadio Olimpico. The Biancorossi are still winless in the elite division and they face a tough task of ending the barren run this weekend.

Unfortunate loss at Marassi

AS Roma have spent the last couple of years trying to challenge relentless Juventus for the Serie A trophy, but they would always fail to live up to the billing, and club chiefs decided a major overhaul was needed ahead of the 2015/2021 campaign. And while many, us included, feared that the team would need a lot of time to hit the ground running due to numerous changes to the playing squad, it appears as though a majority of the new recruits have fitted right in. We can now safely say that Edin Dzeko is the centre forward Roma have missed all these years, with Mohamed Salah and Iago Falque both showing plenty of promise in the early days at Stadio Olimpico. The Giallorossi proved their worth by defeating Juventus and sharing spoils with Barcelona and while they should have done better to beat Sassuolo at home, the 2-1 loss to Sampdoria was incredibly harsh on Rudi Garcia’s side, who had completely outclassed the in-form Blucerchiati. But, with key playmaker Miralem Pjanic back to the side and weak Carpi visiting Stadio Olimpico, chances are a comfortable home win is on the cards.

Fransesco Totti and Antonio Rudiger are both rated doubtful, but Kevin Strootman and Wojciech Szczesny are definitely out.

Poor start to maiden Serie A campaign

Established back in 1909, Carpi is one of Italy’s oldest clubs, but they haven’t had a lot of success during the first century of existence, having only secured their first ever appearance in Serie B in 2013. Two years later, the Biancorossi produced a major feat to gain promotion to the elite division, but the initial signs would suggest they are not exactly well prepared for one of Europe’s strongest championships. Carpi chiefs attempted to fast-track their way to Serie A survival by recruiting a host of players with top flight experience, but the problem is that the majority of those were either rejected by bigger sides or well past their prime. And with coach Fabrizio Castori having a difficult job to completely rebuild the squad in the short period of time, it is hardly surprising that Carpi are widely regarded as the main candidates for the drop. Having picked up mere two points from first five matches, despite playing three of those at home, the Biancorossi have little to hope for ahead of the daunting trip to Stadio Olimpico.

Francesco Benussi misses out through a thigh problem, with Luca Marrone and Nicolas Spolli also sidelined.

AS Roma vs Carpi betting tip

Looking at their recent performances, AS Roma have got to be considered hot favourites for this clash and the return of Miralem Pjanic will certainly help the home side carve out clear-cut chances easier than in the past few weeks. Carpi, on the other hand, are in all sorts of problems and we cannot expect them to get anything from Stadio Olimpico.
