Leicester City vs Southampton prediction

Leicester City hope to repeat last season’s success when they sent the Saints home with two in their net. Ronald Koeman’s charges need a win in order to keep pace with West Ham and Manchester United. Bearing in mind that both teams play rather offensively of late, we are up for a spectacle this Sunday.

Leicester closing down on the title

Leicester City could become the first new champions of the Premier League since 1978, when Nottingham Forest took the top spot. Now it seems almost amazing in the era of huge spending that they brought their killer-duo, Mahrez and Vardy for just 1.45 million pounds. Claudio Ranieri’s fearless side became quite a hit worldwide, and now everybody hope the Foxes will endure the pressure and lift the trophy in May. In order to accomplish such an incredible success, King Power Stadium outfit need to take seventeen points from their next seven matches, provided that the Spurs record all seven victories until the end of the season. Taking under consideration the fact that Leicester is on an eleven-game undefeated run on home soil, keeping their net intact in seven of those eleven fixtures, chances are the fans will celebrate yet another positive result at King Power Stadium against the Saints. Even though Vardy is not as effective on home ground of late, Okazaki and Ulloa proved they can step up in the crucial moments to secure a triumph, while Mahrez will present the biggest danger from the midfield, as usual.

Mathew James is back in training after his cruciate ligament injury and now Claudio Ranieri only has Andy King in the recovery room, while the rest of the team is fit to play.

Southampton a tough nut to crack on the road

The Saints recorded back-to-back victories in the previous two Premier League rounds against Stoke City (2-1) and Liverpool (3-2). Ronald Koeman received a perfect birthday present one day early, as his charges went from being two behind to a triumph in the furious ending of the second half in their clash against the Reds. Saido Mane recorded his first brace of the season, while Graziano Pelle struck his third in two matches. St Mary’s Stadium outfit have been rather successful on their travels of late, with a win over Manchester United and a goalless draw against Arsenal. However, the team from Hampshire did not do well in their previous two visits to Leicester, returning empty-handed on both occasions. Ranieri’s rock-solid defenders will keep a tight mark on Koeman’s forwards and will reduce their chances to minimum, but if Pelle continues with his amazing displays, chances are we will see at least a goal in Schmeichel’s net.

Florin Gardos will definitely miss the forthcoming match due to injury. Ryan Bertrand and Ryan Seager await the final decision of the medical team, while Charlie Austin is back in training and will be fit to play.

Quick Facts

  • Leicester City are on a five-game undefeated run in the league
  • The Foxes suffered their last league defeat on home soil in September 2015
  • Claudio Ranieri’s charges kept a clean sheet in six of their last seven home fixtures
  • Southampton lost one of their previous five away matches (W3 D1)
  • The Saints were defeated in their two latest visits to King Power Stadium

Leicester City vs Southampton betting tip

Taking under consideration the forms of both teams, a tough clash is expected this Sunday evening at King Power Stadium. I predict a heavy battle, but Leicester City proved more than once this season they are capable of recording triumphs in such nail bitters, which is why I will bet on the hosts this time out.
