Atletico Madrid vs Real Betis prediction

Estadio Vicente Calderon will host Saturday’s game between Atletico Madrid and Real Betis. Los Beticos are eyeing their first win over los Rojiblancos since 2011, but they will have a big fish to fry in the game against Diego Simeone’s troops.

Upsetting loss to Sporting Gijon

Diego Simeone could not count on several first-team regulars for the game against Sporting Gijon and, as a result, the capital club suffered a 2-1 loss to Abelardo’s troops at “Molinon”. Los Rojiblancos, though, remained in second place in the La Liga standings, but given that they are nine points behind league leaders Barca, Diego Simeone’s men are unlikely to regain the domestic trophy. The team’s main goal is to finish the season above their fierce local rivals Real Madrid and, no doubt, Atletico Madrid will take Saturday’s game against Real Betis very seriously. Antoine Griezmann scored for France in an international friendly against Netherlands and given that the former Real Sociedad man found the net in the 2-1 defeat to Sporting Gijon as well, he is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders on Saturday.

Diego Godin returned to training, but he is unlikely to be risked against Real Betis. Stefan Savic remains in the recovery room, alongside Tiago Mendes, Jose Gimenez and Yannick Carrasco. Saul is likely to play as a centre back this time out.

Back-to-back defeats

Real Betis do not seem to be at the top of their game at the moment. Following back-to-back wins over Espanyol and Granada, los Beticos suffered two consecutive defeats to the likes of Athletic Club and Malaga and, as a result, they dropped to 13th place in the La Liga standings. The Andalusians are six points clear of the relegation zone, meaning that they can’t afford any complacency in the remainder of the season. Real Betis face an uphill task in Saturday’s match against Atletico Madrid and taking into account the fact that they suffered a loss in each of their previous five meetings with los Rojiblancos, it is no surprise Juan Merino’s troops are considered big underdogs in Saturday’s clash at Estadio Vicente Calderon. Spanish veteran Ruben Castro is enjoying yet another season to remember and all eyes will be on him when the two sides take on each other in Madrid on Matchday 31.

Coach Juan Merino has no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to Madrid and he is likely to field the same starting XI that faced Malaga on Matchday 30. Jorge Molina, though, could be recalled to the starting line-up.

Quick Facts

  • Atletico Madrid scored eight goals in last two meetings with Betis at Estadio Vicente Calderon
  • Los Rojiblancos are after their sixth consecutive win over los Beticos in La Liga
  • Real Betis recorded their last win at “Calderon” on 18 December, 2011
  • Los Beticos registered only one win in last eight away games in the league
  • Atletico are after their fourth consecutive clean sheet at home in La Liga

Atletico Madrid vs Real Betis betting tip

Atletico Madrid are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but seeing that Diego Simeone can’t count on key defenders for Saturday’s game against Real Betis, I am not tempted to put my money on the hosts this time out. Los Beticos are likely to take advantage of the situation and given that Antoine Griezmann can’t stop scoring, both teams to score bet appears on the horizon.

Tip: Both teams to score

Odds: 2.40 (7/5) at BetVictor
