Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen prediction

Borussia Dortmund will be looking to stay in the race for the Bundesliga trophy with a win over relegation-threatened Werder Bremen at Signal-Iduna-Park. The Millionaires are five points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, meaning that the hosts face a must-win situation in Saturday’s game.

Borussia breathing down Bayern’s neck

Borussia Dortmund failed to impress in the 2014/2015 Bundesliga campaign and, as a result, coach Jurgen Klopp got fired. Even though many people expected that the Millionaires would struggle under Thomas Tuchel this term, the team have already proved the doubters wrong. Borussia have been producing thrilling displays this season, but they are five points behind Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings ahead of Matchday 28. Thomas Tuchel’s men head into the game against Werder Bremen following a 3-1 win over Augsburg and you should have in mind that top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed the clash due to personal issues. The Gabon international, who is on Arsenal’s radar, returns to contention and the opposition back line should find it hard to contain the team’s key player. It has to be noted that the Millionaires are eyeing their 12th home win of the season.

Ilkay Gundogan missed the Augsburg game with injury, but he could recover in time to face Werder Bremen. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returns to the starting line-up, while Sven Bender is rated doubtful. Several Borussia players were on the international duty, meaning that Thomas Tuchel could rested some of his first-team regulars against Werder.

One point above relegation zone

Werder Bremen have been having their ups and downs in March. Following back-to-back wins over Bayer Leverkusen and Hannover 96, die Werderaner suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to Bayern Munich in their last away game in the national championship, but they did well to pick up one point from the clash against Mainz. Viktor Skripnik’s troops, though, are just one point clear of the relegation zone and their top flight will be in danger in the remainder of the season. Anyhow, Werder Bremen are considered big underdogs in Saturday’s showdown at Signal-Iduna-Park and they will be more than happy with one point from the match. Despite the fact that Borussia Dortmund are a real force to be reckoned with at home, the visitors should stick to their attacking style of play. Claudio Pizarro scored against Mainz and the Peruvian veteran should lead the attack for the hosts against the Millionaires.

The likes of Raphael Wolf, Aron Johansson, Philipp Bargfrede, Janek Sternberg, Ozkan Yildirim and Milos Veljkovic missed the Mainz game and they are unlikely to play against Borussia Dortmund.

Quick Facts

  • Borussia Dortmund are undefeated at home ground this season
  • Millionaires managed to keep four clean sheets in last five home fixtures
  • Werder Bremen conceded 14 goals in last five away matches
  • Over 3.5 goals were scored in six of Werder’s last seven away games
  • Both teams scored in each of previous four meetings between the two sides

Borussia Dortmund vs Werder Bremen betting tip

Borussia Dortmund are eager to extend their winning run in Bundesliga and they need to keep on collecting points if they are to regain the domestic trophy. Thomas Tuchel can count on all of his big guns for the Werder Bremen game and there is every chance the hosts will crush Claudio Pizarro and Co, who have been struggling at the back this season.
