Bournemouth vs Manchester City prediction

Vitality Stadium outfit will host Manchester City for the first time in the Premier League. The Cherries will be looking for the continuation of their flawless run on home soil, while the Citizens want to put an end to their winless streak.

Bournemouth have marking problems

Bournemouth’s three-game winning run came to an end in the previous round of the Premier League, since the Spurs emerged victorious from their encounter at White Hart Lane (3-0). From their last couple of matches, it became obvious that their defenders have certain problems in marking the opponents, thus leaving Artur Boruc in one-on-one situation with the attackers in several occasions. Eddie Howe had two weeks to work on this problem and the back line will have a proper test this Saturday when they face the Citizens. The Cherries have been blowing hot and cold on home soil this term, and, bearing in mind they do not display their best performances against top-flight teams, Vitality Stadium outfit should be more than happy if they manage to snatch a point against Manuel Pellegrini’s men. Steve Cook has been productive of late and will present the biggest danger during the set pieces, while Benik Afobe is the one to watch in offense. Judging by the productivity in attack on home soil of late, I do expect Bournemouth to net at least a goal.

Bournemouth will be without the likes of Junior Stanislas (hamstring injury) Tyrone Mings (knee), Harry Arter (Achilles tendon injury), who are all in the recovery room. Callum Wilson is back in training, but the question is whether he will be able to play.

The Citizens need a win

The Citizens have been suffering from a serious dip in form, recording a single league victory from the beginning of February. Such run of results drove Manuel Pellegrini’s side to the fourth place in the overall standings. Manchester City need to end the negative trend fast, since high-flying West Ham is breathing down their necks and their place in the Champions League next season is in serious jeopardy. The forwards are on a four-game barren run and Sergio Aguero and David Silva will have to work extra hard this time out in order to find the net, but the fact that Bournemouth conceded five goals in their last two games could make their task much easier. Nevertheless, Etihad Stadium outfit will have a hard time in keeping their own net intact, since Kompany, Hart and Otamendi are out, while Demichelis is facing charges for misconduct in relation to betting.

Manuel Pellegrini has a long list of injured players at the moment. As mentioned, Joe Hart is still in recovery, as well as Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling. Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri are doubtful, while Fabian Delph could start the game from the bench.

Quick Facts

  • The Citizens are undefeated in their matches with Bournemouth
  • MCFC are on a three-game winless run in all competitions
  • Manuel Pellegrini’s men failed to score a single goal in the spell
  • The Cherries recorded back-to-back wins on home turf in the league
  • Their last encounter in Dorset ended in a goalless draw

Bournemouth vs Manchester City betting tip

Judging by the current forms of both teams, I would not dare to pick a shure winner this time out. Taking under consideration that Bournemouth’s defense have been struggilng with the opposition attackers of late, while the Citizens will have a problem in forming a proper defensive line in the upcoming match, I expect the forwards will have their day and that both teams will find the net.

Tip: Both teams to score – Yes
