The national football team of Cuba has suffered another major blow as it was revealed that star midfielder Ariel Martinez has abandoned the side.
Leones del Caribe had previously seen Keiler Garcia, Arael Arguellez and Dario Suarez defect to the United States and they have now stayed without their best player as well.
After helping Cuba secure their progress into the 2015 Gold Cup quarter-final by defeating Guatemala, Ariel Martinez got off the team bus and disappeared into the night.
The talented midfielder had been very emotional on the journey to the hotel, but the coach and fellow teammates believed that was due to the very important win over Guatemala.
Martinez gave coach Raul Gonzalez Triana a hug as the team arrived from the match in front of the hotel before leaving in an unknown direction.
Given the circumstances, Cuba face a very difficult task in the clash with hosts United States, who are 1.93 (13/14) to win with -3 Asian handicap.
