Inter vs Sassuolo prediction

When Inter and Sassuolo met at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza last season the Nerazzurri demolished the Neroverdi 7-0, meaning that the visitors do not consider the trip to Milano appealing. Roberto Mancini’s men aim to retain top position in the Serie A standings, but Sassuolo should not be written off just yet.

Nerazzurri dreaming about Scudetto

It has been six years since Inter won their last Serie A trophy. The Nerazzurri were impressive under Jose Mourinho and current boss Roberto Mancini is on a quest to bring glory days back to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Inter are leading the chase for Scudetto, but seeing that they are just three points clear of defending champions Juventus, the Nerazzurri need to keep on raising their form if they are to put an end to Juve’s dominance in the Italian national championship. Roberto Mancini’s men head into Sunday’s game against Sassuolo following a hard-fought 1-0 win at Empoli and the league leaders once again looked solid as rock at the back. Inter are after their seventh home win of the season, but it has to be noted that the Nerazzurri were beaten by Lazio in their last game at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Manuel Icardi scored the winner against Empoli, meaning that the opposition back line are likely to have their work cut out for them when facing the Argentine attacker.

Felipe Melo is sidelined through suspension, but coach Roberto Mancini has no injury worries ahead of the visit of Sassuolo. The former Man City boss is likely to field the same starting XI that faced Empoli.

One win in last six away games

Over the years Sassuolo have established themselves as a mid-table side in Italian Serie A. The Neroverdi, though, failed to impress in the 2014/2015 campaign, with the team finishing the season in 17th place in the standings, just two points clear of bottom three. Unlike last season, Eusebio Di Francesco’s men have been producing scintillating displays in the 2015/2016 Serie A campaign and they sit in sixth place in the standings ahead of Matchday 18. Sassuolo’s goal remains unchanged and they are fully focused on securing yet another elite division survival, but, no doubt, they will try to take advantage of the current situation. The Neroverdi shared the spoils with the likes of Verona and Frosinone in previous two league matches, but Inter will certainly pose a much bigger threat for Eusebio Di Francesco’s troops than their previous opponents. Last season’s key player Simone Zaza left the club in the summer transfer window, but a great teamwork seems to be Sassuolo’s biggest quality this term.

Lorenzo Pellegrini is sidelined through suspension, whilst Emanuele Terranova misses the match with injury. Coach Eusebio Di Francesco has no other selection worries ahead of the trip to Milano.

Quick Facts

  • Inter scored 16 goals in previous four meetings with Sassuolo
  • Nerazzurri managed to keep three clean sheets in last four home fixtures
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in four of Inter’s last six games in the league
  • Sassuolo have kept only one clean sheet in last six away games
  • Neroverdi were demolished by Inter 7-0 in their last meeting at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza

Inter vs Sassuolo betting tip

Sassuolo suit Inter and despite the fact that the Neroverdi outplayed the Nerazzurri in their last meeting at Stadio Citta del Tricolore, I believe that there is a big value in betting on the league leaders this time out. Roberto Mancini’s men have been impressive at the back this season and seeing that the Italian tactician is going to field the best possible side against Sassuolo, anything but a routine home win will be a major surprise in this one.

Tip: Inter to win
